If there is enough of it, it will contribute to global cooling, just as Krakatoa did in the 1800s. That dust cloud also caused spectacular sunsets and some very cold winters for a few years.
So give us a guess when so many flights were cancelled Ms NATS spokeswoman. During the Napoleonic Wars?
Combine this with:
and things are starting to get biblical.
Just google "British Airways Flight 9" to see just how much fun it is to fly through a volcanic cloud.
And yes,Heathrow is huge...and jammed packed.A madhouse when i was last there (about 2 years ago).
My husband is in Italy on business. He is supposed to fly home tomorrow evening through Amsterdam. Waiting to see what happens. Sunsets are no consolation.
I bet those Europeans don’t love nature so much now.

Iceland: what ugly secrets are waiting to be exposed in the meltdown?

A Cautionary Tale
I think Iceland is going to need to buy more carbon credits.
Every night, Brian demonstrates what a total fool he is.
I don’t know how Iceland can survive any more disruption.
Economic disaster
Volcanic disaster
Iceberg breaking off and flooding a huge area
I gotta rush to buy a couple extra cases of chili.
Yup. The evil idiots like Kerry, Graham-nesty and Lieberman are pushing cap and tax, climate change and other TAX schemes. We have no control over volcanos which in a day emit more crap than 20 years of cars and factories.
Global warming lie? If this volcano and the neighboring one not far from this one get going - you will see some serious global cooling. This one with the long name can melt the glacier capping the nearby more dormant volcano but it is a bigger deal. If both of them get going - look out.
Maybe ocean liners will make a comeback. B-)
With the sudden loss of Europe tourism will go into the dumper Fur Shur, and the boat people? You haven't seen boat people until a bunch of starving Europeans hop on board hundreds of thousands of rowboats, barges, yachts and freighters begin making their way across the atlantic towards?...... Can we get these people to go to Mexico ~ it's pretty empty these days.
Then there's the crowd who's going to go to Eastasia.......
Being quite serious and sober for just a second, this particular disaster could usher in a new Dark Age.
Incredible days we are witnessing.
“Who to blame? Bush or Global Warming or both?”
Global warming? What global warming? This will drop temperatures and will be chalked up to “climate change”
“So, I guess I can go back to using good old r-12 freon now?”
never stopped
Yep sure can, it's going to be a huge mess as long as she belches. Planes just cannot fly in the ash. And other evil internal combustion engines my not work either. There is no fix, and that's the cool part. When mother nature decides, we have no choice but adapt. Food could miss the spring planting.
I wonder when the next glaciation period will start.
Same thing happened in 1989 with a KLM 747 flying into Anchorage through a Mt. Redoubt ash cloud. Fortunately, the aircraft was still high enough that the pilot had 5 minutes to get all four engines restarted. There were over 200 on board.
Looks like we need volcano legislation to stop this madness.
