Overblown as usual.
Surely the EPA and its Euro counterparts, can come up with a way to tax us for this unprecedented sulphur dioxide release. A global tax on all nature mega-events should come in quite handy for the UN Human Relief experts.
Happened before and will happen again - just a matter of when (Sure hope that Yellowstone does not erupt - major effect in the USA). Not a panic, just recognizing that nature has its own way of doing things that man can not eliminate - maybe minimize barely...
Yeah, I may have been to hasty stocking my basement with ahem, “long pork”. Might have some splain’in to do...
Don’t fly.
Prices will rise.
We’re all going to die.
Yes, I would also love to see their estimates! I’d bet that a single active volcano would put out more CO2 than all the automobiles would in at least years time. Great - means that plants will grow like crazy and put out more oxygen...
Pick one. Yellowstone, Toba, the Siberian and Deccan traps, an asteroid strike, a comet strike, a nearby supernova. Eventually something is gonna get our attention. Not a damn thing we can do about em.
Hey, man, I want to see Al Gore hiking up that volcano with a really big cork and a really big plastic container of super glue. Let’s see how big his commitment REALLY is.
Heh, exactly! That is why Al Gore is such a kook! I say we should put him onto CO2 instead of oxygen... Of course, that just make him more green...heh.
A volcanic emission like that fairly well explains the depopulating of Brittany in the 6th Century, the earlier disappearance of the Sa'ami in Southern Norway and Sweden, and their loss in Denmark and the Baltic Coast of Europe about 6 millenia ago, and, moreso, the strange sudden disappearance of all the Neanderthal from the record in Spain and other Western European locations.
This volcano was engineered by Bush because he hates Icelandic people.
LOL. Now THAT was a great response. ;-)
Hmmm, and I though the the Neanderthal disappeared due to stupidity. Oh well...
If you stuck Iceland underneath West Virginia and let this sucker toke off on all that coal, there'd be far more CO2 ~ probably enough to snuff the local flora and fauna in the Eastern United States.
If you stuck this volcano under the coalfields of North Dakota, you could probably snuff the Western Hemisphere and make folks in the Eastern Hemisphere nauseous for a long time.
At the same time you could take one like Krakatau or Toba and get an entirely different picture.
Hey, no fair getting scientific - we’re having some fun here... In actually, almost all volcanos spew large amounts of CO2 - now you can quantify large according to location, but come on now... It’s still a LOT!
One immediate negative effect...tourism to the Caribbean is in the tank. More europeans than Americans visit places like Jamaica, DR, Barbados...
