Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but this could get very interesting on the east coast soon.
Gore will use this as his excuse for the failure of global warming.
The warming clowns will simply say this ash has temporarily halted global warming.
thanks for posting
Yep, read my previous post.
“Strontium 90, would be carried by the Jet Stream and end up right in our breadbasket, where it would land on grasses, and quickly be detected in milk.”
Are you quoting history or do you remember the Strontium 90 count for the day broadcast over many radio stations back in the 50s and early 60s?
A great follow up to “Duck and Cover” drills starting back in the early 50s.
This is not to that level yet. Maybe this will make people think about the possibilities of the Yellowstone Caldera lighting off.
That would be even much worse and along the lines of Mt. Tamora.
LOL !
That’s the one I’m keeping an eye on. If there’s a blast or the ash of a St Helens/Katla or stronger, then I’m probably going to invest in dry food goods, ammo, firewood, venison, and wild game. If Laki goes up, I’m damn well getting the game this year, because we’re going to be in for one bad winter.
Yellowstone dwarfs Tambora. That would be on the lines of Lake Toba, which nearly caused mass extinction.
::::sigh::::
Those really were the days, my friends, those were the days. We were so young and hopeful.
Not, we are covered with grime, lines of age, with lips hardened in determination. Mostly, we are no longer shockable, for we have seen the worst, and will see more before this is all over.
I think the volcano is acting stupidly.
There's an article, Iceland volcano: Why a cloud of ash has grounded flights which describes the June 1982 incident of a BA 747 barely surviving an encounter with an ash cloud from an eruption of Gallunggung in West Java.
I think this comparison is ridiculous. Gallungung erupted for months during 1982-83, and it was in an "explosive phase" throughout late 1982, and this BA flight got caught in one of them completely unawares. Now how big was this eruption? I assume it was tens or a hundred times the current Icelandic outburst. I feel quite sure that the density of ash encountered was hundreds or even thousands of times the densities anywhere over Europe.
That's the trouble with all this reporting, it's completely subjective and qualitative. It's like watching a bad science fiction movie. They illustrate text about the "ash cloud" over Europe with shots of the volcano proper, and ash fallout over Iceland.
The cited article states, "The plume is so high that it will neither be visible nor pose a threat to the health of humans on the ground." It's so high you can't see it! Kind of like the moon.
In addition, I think the actions of the authorities are cautious in the extreme, although certainly not groundless. Just look at the pushback they are getting from the airlines.
My only question is, how do you pronounce Eyjafjallajökull? Anyone know?
Somebody had to say it....
....we need an 0bambi-Quiddam...
anyone ....?
Ya nOOb...
We should rename the volcano after Algore.
After all they’re both ash holes.
The ash cloud will more than likely mess up every weather forecast for the year. And could be the launch of the next ice age.
But algore is praying for globull warming to happen.
