Extrapolated over a year, the emissions would place the volcano 47th to 75th in the world table of emitters on a country-by-country basis, according to a database at the World Resources Institute (WRI), which tracks environment and sustainable development. Tax it!
To: Lazamataz
Aw hell, this is going to totally mess up Crap and Tax. It's going to make it IMPERATIVE that we pass this important legislation NOW and lower man made carbon even more due to this global warming caused volcano!

Oh, the ecological horror! How could mother nature do this to herself? It is ecological suicide. I’m feeling warmer already.
Haha.

If this thing blows even more, or even worse if the nearby volcano blows too, there could be some serious ‘splainin’ to do by the AGW crowd, as in how could such a massive amount of CO2 emmissions accompany colder weather??? Because that much volcanic ejecta probably means at least a cold year.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
It’s very ironic that the trees will love all this CO2; but the tree-huggers will not!!!!!
It would make a humorous political cartoon with trees smiling as they take in all the CO2, and the enviro-wackos going bananas.

Maybe Joe Biden will recall the classic movie “Joe and the Volcano” and offer to do the right thing... Leave it to Joe to plagarize a movie script.

The plants will use the CO2 ...related thread:
No, Dr Glikson ( More on Carbon Induced Global Warming )
************************************EXCERPT*******************************************
Harmful carbon?
Glikson also tries to suggest that carbon is only beneficial for plants in glasshouses where humidity is high. Awkwardly for him, field studies from fifty years ago show that atmospheric carbon dioxide is the rate-limiting factor for plants meaning they use up all the CO2 they can between sunrise and 12 noon each day, then slow down until the carbon levels are restored in the air overnight.[iii] One of the main purposes for water molecules in plant tissue is to be exchanged for CO2 (known as evapotranspiration), so not surprisingly not only do plants prefer higher CO2 they grow faster they also cope better with drier conditions. Overall, hundreds of studies show that plants typically grow 20-50% more biomass with higher CO2 levels.[iv]

I think there is a real chance that with the low sun activity primarily, plus volcanic activity (if this continues or gets worse) that a BIG chill might be on our way/continuing. (Temps have DROPPED since 1998).
A couple of cold summers with limited crop growth will have a much greater affect on humans than warming would have. Assuming that it is just a few years. If you believe in the cyclical nature of nature - we are past due for an ice age.

Why all the worry over CO2? A volcanic eruption emits far more noxious gasses and particulate matter that can disrupt the ecosystem and, as we see now, our technological and economic systems as well. By the numbers, the CO2 will dissipate into the atmosphere, raising the count marginally, but heavier gasses will accumulate in distant regions at different times affecting plants, animals and humans for some time.
Unfortunately, it'll affect politics as well, making the less educated fodder for the incredibly stupid predatory politicians.
