You can bet there are some awfully jumpy folks on the western end of New Guinea along about now...

The area where it hit is a region which has turned from animism and has embraced Christianity. They are very poor.

By limiting the range of earthquakes being counted in this report to magnitude 7 or above, it means these earthquakes can easily be identified by a limited number of seismographs, and we have ensured that any increase in frequency for these larger earthquakes cannot be down to the increase in overall detection rates in this 25-year period, as all these larger earthquakes are able to be easily detected with fewer seismograph stations."

California seems to be having a lot of little quakes. They were averaging 200-300 a week last year. This year it’s gone up to 500-700 and today the map says there have been 1263 in the past week. That’s a lot of little shaking.
Abby would barely notice a tsunami in the middle of the ocean.
They get bigger as they approach land.
