The one that happened five years ago...I heard the train a coming for maybe five seconds before the shake, but I felt a sense something was wrong maybe 10 seconds before the shake. The most recent one..no sound..but some serious shaking. My dad told me when his father was waked in his home in 1946 or so there was an earthquake and it almost tipped the casket over. We live on top of the Canadian Shield, so tons of rock under our feet. That will prevent us from ever having serious damage from a quake unlike california. The rocks shift alot but it is all deep underground. In both cases I never felt any aftershocks, cause they were so small.
I suppose the best thing to be would be drunk when a quake hits. It would come and go before you knew it.
