Very, very well put!!! IMHO.
I think Hawkings is correct, whatever his reasoning.
And in his twisted body, not tempted by conventional life the way the rest of us are, perhaps he sees some few things (like this) with a little more clarity.
To me, at least, it is odd that he hasn't considered the possibility of Divinity (maybe he has and just hasn't mentioned it)?
Regarding space, maybe we call leave the muslim outreach to Obama personally and have NASA return to its original goal.
Hawking compared religion and science in 2010, saying: “There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority, [and] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works.”
Hmmmm
at his age and health, that’s due to change dramatically any moment.
If there is indeed a Real Being exercising said authority, that Author wins because He not only incorporates science but is our very source of observation and reason.
For the record, I cast my vote for the Author.
GREAT TO SEE YOU POSTING BRO.
He an Atheist so, he probably doesn’t believe in life after Earth. I think he’s a bit bitter about his condition also.
He might be too busy *reasoning* and being *logical* to feel the holy spirit.
Out of his mortal body . . . his attention will be more focused.
Shall we take a boat or a train Stephen. I’m sure you can answer the question Stevie, being the brightest boy in the class.
Actually, he considers himself (and speaks in terms of being) agnostic. His ex-wife is the one who says he’s an Atheist.
That guy is nuts.
Hey, My pleasure....
LOL!
“God not only plays dice. He sometimes throws the dice where they cannot be seen.”
Hawking, on quantum issues (apparently in response to the quote from Einstein: “Quantum mechanics is certainly imposing. But an inner voice tells me that it is not yet the real thing. The theory says a lot, but does not really bring us any closer to the secret of the ‘old one’. I, at any rate, am convinced that He does not throw dice.”)
Thanks for the ping!
Catastrophism ping.
You’re likely a pleasure to all who know you.
Just be sure you have the Blood of Jesus’ ticket to Heaven’s shore. I want to have some long chats with you there!
It may not be that easy anyway to just hop to another planet. University of Michigan astrophysicist Katherine Freese told Big Think that the closest star to Earth is Proxima Centauri. That's 4.2 light years away, which means man could reach the star in 4.2 years - if man could travel at the speed of light.
This is the hard part. At current travel speed capabilities, it would take thousands of years to get to even the closest star, far longer than all recorded history. The Voyager was launched in 1977 and is just now reaching the edge of the solar system. Of course, it ran a course deliberately designed to pass close by other planets, but any serious space exploration would take several dozen generations for a human to reach anything resembling another solar system. If our solar system is any indication, none of the other planets are remotely capable of supporting human life.
