We are not a democracy, we are a republic.

Not the point.

Democracy = Mob Rule

Not the point.

I couldn't get by this: Either we have a democracy or we do not

Not the point.

I stopped reading after "Either we have a democracy or we do not."

No point in reading any further.

The founders could not utter the word "democracy" with out spitting! They held the idea of such a government in TOTAL disdain!

There is talk that if Lisa does not win, she will switch and run as a “Libertarian” - a valid 3rd party here in Alaska.

THis will prove the election was less about 'serving Alaska' than about Lisa' monumential ego. In that way, she would be at least as bad as daddy.... ANd if Lisa runs under the (L) - it would stand to reason that the Dems would pour moneny into supporting the Dem candidate - and now AK would have two (2) Senators with the evil D behind there names. It is interesting to see how the L48 media is showing Joe Miller...

It was the royalists in the Republican party who gave us this mess. They had their opportunity to do the right thing when George Bush tax cuts were enacted, but they started spending like drunken Democrats and the independents lined up with the faux conservative blue dogs to give us Pelozi and Reid, then Obama. The purpose of the Tea Party should be to lead the independents back to conservatism and purge the Republican party of the royalists.

I beg to differ but please be kind enough to explain just what YOU think the point is!

I beg to differ

You have no intellectually defensible grounds on which to do so, given that you, by your own admission "stopped reading" after the second sentence.

but please be kind enough to explain just what YOU think the point is!

The author has already done so. You missed that.

We are a representative democratic republic. If we were simply “a republic, not a democracy”, our nation would resemble Castro’s Cuba.

Whatever you say my friend but I simply refuse to waste my time reading material written by those who don’t even understand our form of government.

why not continue working to replace the royalist, liberal leaders of the Republican Party with conservatives?

If we are not allowed to elect our leaders, vis'a'vis Miller, then exactly how do we go about that?

The point about Republic vs Democracy is a valid one.

GET PAST IT.

We have the NRSC meddling in a STATE PRIMARY.

WHY?

It needs to be stopped.

So let me see if I get this.

There's a really close primary election in AK.

The Secretary of State of AK does not have as much influence over procedure and process as it would in regular elections.

The NRSC is described as:

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is the only political committee solely dedicated to electing Republicans to the U.S. Senate.

It is feared by the OP, that the NRSC will take control over the election process and procedure in AK and possibly throw the nomination to Murkowski.

Am I getting close?

Whittled solely for brevity's sake. ;)

Hi, I read on a thread yesterday that AK has a “sore loser law” that prohibits candidates from filing to run 3rd party after a certain deadline (prior to the primaries). Can you (or anyone) confirm or dispell this?

If that is the point then perhaps we need someone to post a thread which gets to the POINT rather that rambling on and on about “Democaracy”!!!

Either we have a democracy or we do not. If we do not have a democracy, I won't be forced to choose between one party's anti-democratic leaders and another's.
If you start with an incorrect premise (Republic vs Democracy From The American Ideal of 1776: The Twelve Basic American Principles) you inevitably come to a wrong conclusion.
