Yeah, because that would be a logic-based argument, rather than an emotion-based one.
We should embrace this warming period, it allowed the development of mankind.
Does not look that big!
I thought those maps / satellite photos kind of put it into perspective of the larger picture of the Arctic ice mass.
So is it the start of something to worry about, or something that occasionally happens over the longer geological time frame?
I am not sure. Seems to me to be not that much to worry about considering all the other ice mass up there.
Now if other similar sized pieces start breaking off...
If my car started to take 10 gallons of gas to make it across town, many FReepers would reply, "Who cares? Cars burn fuel...there's nothing wrong!"
The laws of physics don't change enough for that. Counting seasonal layers, confirming flow rates, etc., are valid measurement/analysis techniques.
Fortunately, scientists and engineers understand there are means of changing rates by understanding the mechanisms of retreat there.
Fighting Mother Nature is usually expensive, though.
How do I get a scam job like that?
"We cant just sweep it under the carpet and say Its one of natures cycles,...
Why not? Do tell.
My point was how do they know what is NORMAL, if they don’t have the information about the previous ice sheet, and how long it stayed attached, before dropping off. The information from the layers, etc, is all well and good, but unless they’ve measure a different ‘drop’, they wouldn’t know what is the typical time frame for its occurrence.
But we do know.
