What a bunch of ignorant, poorly written, hysterical garbage by an obvious nutcase. Was this written by Paul Erlich 30 years ago?
...it’s quite frightening how the amount of catastrophes are increasing all over the place, you know, in all manifestations—storms, earthquakes, you know, volcanoes erupting. I mean, the amount of events is growing dramatically. I mean, it’s really frightening.

OMG, I'm scared. It's really frightening.

he is so celebrated that after 30 years as a professor of economics and numerous publications I have never heard of him or seen any paper he published.

He sounds like an idiot if you want my opinion.

Perhaps this “eminent economist” should engage in a live televised debate with Mr. Buffet; they seem to have differing opinions!

FTA:

“From the ashes of the collapse will come the opportunity to build a new economy based on human principles of valuing all life.”

From an interview with Robert Reich a few days ago:

After three decades of flat wages during which almost all the gains of growth have gone to the very top, the middle class no longer has the buying power to keep the economy going. It can’t send more spouses into paid work, can’t work more hours, can’t borrow any more. All the coping mechanisms are exhausted. Anyone who thinks China will get us out of this fix and make up for the shortfall in demand is blind to reality. So what’s the answer? Reorganizing the economy to make sure the vast middle class has a larger share of its benefits. Remaking the basic bargain linking pay to per-capita productivity.

“Greed” is human nature, which is why capitalism works and other more utopian systems like socialism and communism don’t.

The answer is simple;

America must initiate country by country reciprocal trade tariffs - driving either those countries to (1) buy as much from us as we do from them, or (2) bringing jobs back to America from countries which refuse to.

The end is otherwise near. We do not have the luxury of fiddling. Rome is burning.

Initiate tariffs, and bring back American jobs. It’s our only way out of this mess.

We should all present ourselves to the government as needy children who need to be led and fed and told how to think and act.

“Please give us just enough to live on and take away all the risks of making a living on our own and prevent us from being GREEDY and wanting more than subsistence.”

Human World Order

You mean Humanist World Order?

it must take place in an entirely new economic model to be successful

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that on campus...

Any economy that is “built” will fail. The only economy that will thrive is one that “grows”. Government and government “experts” need to stay entirely out of the economy.

What is sad is that economic profit which drives market economies forward was been equated with greed. Is it greed when an entrepreneur assumes great risk, succeeds and makes a large profit as a result? Look at Bill Gates and all the employment and economic development that has resulted because of the success of Microsoft. In today’s mindset he committed a social sin because his success made him wealthy. Yet today’s moralists have no problem with a poor California town paying its corrupt officials large 6 figure salaries or union bosses making million dollar salaries and living like pashas while their union members loose their jobs.

I have been thinking about this lately. Is greed really a beneficial part of human nature? I understand the concept you are espousing. I recall Francisco's money speech in Atlas Shrugged. I think you and Ayn have it half right. Love of excellence is the true virtue not the love of money. In a just, capitalist society excellence would be rewarded with money. Therefor, one who loves being excellent would be justly rewarded with as much money as their excellence deserves. And similarly one's excellence would be measured by one's wealth. That is if we had a just, capitalist society. (which we don't)

The love of money is a shortcut which avoids the whole excellence part and goes right after the reward part.

Just sayin...

If nothing else, “dramatically poisonous” serves as a good description of the programming on “Democracy Now!”

See 34 for my opinion of greed. It seems he was referring to Capitalism and freedom rather than greed.....

As for the video...WOW. I have never seen that clip before. That was awesome.
