Wow! Besides Germany of 1954-1956; and a few years in Indianapolis !956-1961) I lived in North Louisiana and southern Arkansas. And we had a few winters in North Louisiana and southern Arkansas that had some very severe ice storms, and them old houses without insulation or storm windows and doors were pretty cold.

We lived in Memphis TN from 1961-2000; on Christmas eve 1963 it came a blizzard from about 9 AM until 10 PM, total snow 14” to 16”(was -10 degrees for the next 5 days).

Right at the end of March 68, it had rained most of the day, started to snow about 2PM, I left work downtown about 5 PM, was about 6 to 8 inches of snow. It reached about 16” + that evening.

We can all say, “we still have weather”!

Actually it IS very unusual to have snow at this time in Australia. Unlike the high Sierras, Australia’s mountains are old and worn, no higher than the Appalachians.

I got snowed on in the Sierra’s on 4th of July about 60 years ago.

I live at the Sierra foothills and remember dad in his winter coat barbecuing in a snow storm on the 4th. In fact, I think I've seen snow at least once in every month of the year in the Sierras. Conversely, I remember an entire February when the temps were in the 90's. We were in shorts and t-shirts the whole month, then it was back to winter.

This is just normal climate change. (No AGW)

JMHO "Change" carries a connotation of permanence and fits in with the AlGore agenda. Better to say "This is just the normal climate cycle."

This strange weather phenomenon, which you will see in the video below, happened in Newfoundland where the waves were actually frozen as they crashed on the beach.

As a canadian who grew up in Sask and has Newfy family members, that’s not shocking. I’ve seen it myself many years ago when my uncle was a lighthouse keeper. But I’ve told friends before my uncle saw once a sea lion turned almost white and thrown by the northeastern storms and the sea lion broke into pieces when it crashed into the reefs because it was frozen solid..

Interesting note. As of today there have been 5 consecutive spotless days on the sun. Maybe the minimum is gonna stretch out a while longer.

Thanks patriciaruth. We wouldn't have this problem if the stream were still driven by a propeller instead. Wait, what?

Never said it was an exact cycle. It never has been, and this is one of the longest bottoms on record. It did finally show some signs of life, looked like it would not.

I could use another good sunspot maximum. Still have a lot of places that I would like to work. I am not a paper collector though, like to wrag chew. Especially with techies.

Interesting. You're recalling details from 42 years ago as though they only happened a few days ago.

I remember the big show of ‘47 in northern NJ. We had 27 inches. It was up to my chest. I was 9 years old. After my father dug a path to the street. I dug caves in the side walls of the path for my 15 month old brother to crawl into. What fun!!

Apparently NY is supposed to get rocked by this after Christmas. Though I’ve been checking radar every few hours and the cell that was pounding New England seems to have dissipated.

Piers Corbyn is not always right, but he seems to be right more often then not. Here is his latest warning. Looks fairly bad to me. I know the experts have been having trouble predicting this next Christmas storm.

How many hours/days/months does it take for a sunspot event to be felt on earth? Does it move at the speed of light?

I’m near Syracuse, NY and last week we got three feet of snow, the week before 4 feet. So it will definitely be a white Christmas. Some years we have no snow until January, or at least nothing substantial that sticks. That’s just how the weather is— unpredictable, but we’re always ready. Kids were mad they only got one day off in the last two weeks because we know how to deal with it. I have pictures of my dad from the blizzards of ‘66 and I think ‘78 and the snow is piled over his head and he was 6’ 4”! I don’t remember ‘66, but heard the stories how those with snowmobiles pulled together to help each other out, old people get food, etc. In ‘78 it was just fun and in ‘93 or ‘94 we got 5’ at the end of March. But they always give Buffalo all the credit for snow!
