When all else fail, crazy monkey sex generate much heat...at least freeze to death happy.
I’m going with “crazy monkey” first. LOL
How did you find out about my monkey?!?!?
“But, didnt you know, ice ages are caused by global warming, which melts the ice and disrupts the gulf stream, cooling the poles... < /sarc >”
The old theory was that the earth warmed up melting the polar ice caps, and all that water was in liquid form. The evaporation caused so much precipitation, including snowfalls, that only about 10 per cent of the snowfalls would melt in the summer because the snowbase was so thick. Over time, the unmelted snow turned into glaciers.
I don’t know if this is any more or less valid than any other theories, like changes in the tilt of the earth’s axis, or a dearth of sunspot activity.
I think there is evidence against is, such as the high temperatures and high sea levels during the hundreds of millions of years of the ages of the dinosaurs.
Actually, we’re in the 8th interglacial period of the current ice age, the Quartenary or Pleistocene Ice Age. So far there have been 8 periods of glaciation, the last ending between 10,000 and 15,000 thousand years ago. If we go on the basis of the length of the previous interglacials, we’re due a change soon. The current one is the longest but coolest of the most recent 5.
This is PERFECT! I’ll need a Little Ice Age as I coast (well, more like dragged kicking and screaming) into my Hot Flash Years, LOL! :)
