According to the article the rate of rise measured by satellites is 3mm per year.

-

Or perhaps the satellite orbit is decaying by 3mm per year.

The "warmers" would certainly not be above using such data to advance their dishonest agenda, by "hocket-sticking" data and deliberately misinterpreting to fit and confirm their pre-designed template.

In fact it's likely.

UN Climate Body Struggling to Pinpoint Rising Sea Levels Retain Their Last Pathetic Vestiges Of Credibility

Can we really measure distances of hundreds of miles to within a tiny fraction of an inch accuracy?

Keeping in mind the satellite is moving, and the sea is not a flat surface, waves, you know, and tides, too.

I think this is another case of using false precision to reach unsupportable conclusions.

But does that mean that water levels are rising faster? Not necessarily. “I find it unlikely that sea level started to accelerate just at the time we started to measure it with satellites,” says Simon Holgate, a sea level researcher with the National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool. He says that the simple change in measuring technique could account for the change.

The quote from Liverpool is significant.

Bidston observatory in Cheshire near Liverpool has been the center of the Admiralty world wide tide predictions for a long time. They do have lots of worldwide tide data (=sea level data).

The 1924 analog computer is a work of art and could solve multi-variable differential equations. IIRC the Bidston analog (analogue in the UK...:^) was only replaced by a large KDF computer in the 60’s, and even then it took all night to calculate.

The analog computer -

When I was a drunken student, we used to go up to Bidston Hill to see the sunrise after a night of partying...:^) One morning we knocked on the door and got a tour of the place and saw it in action.

It's nice to see a little common sense from the far-left Liverpool area.

>>>NASA climate researcher James Hansen warns in a paper published this month that sea levels could rise by five meters in the next 90 years — nine times higher than the maximum cited in the last IPCC report . . . Hansen, say some climatologists, is risking his reputation with such an extreme forecast.<<<

I disagree that Hansen is risking his reputation. Hansen already has the reputation of being an incompetent buffoon. His recent prediction will do nothing to change that.

With 146 million people in the world currently living less than one meter above sea level,

How many of those are either living on boats, or in bamboo beach huts?

Does that include people living in inland sinks, such as the Dead Sea Area; parts of the Rift Valley area; and seveal others that have 100s if not thousands of feet of tall barriers between them and the nearest ocean?

the estimates currently differ by almost five meters (16.5 feet).

If the "estimates" vary by that much, they're guesses, not estimates.

Ummm, some islands in the south pacific that are a few inches above sea level. When they go under we’ll know... then again when unicorns take over we’ll know they were a threat too...

Someone should propose they dredge the ocean.

...and to keep the islands from sinking by putting larger pontoons on them.

Sheila Jackson Lee comes to mind as a great candidate to ramrod this through Congress.

Proof positive that the sea level is not rising, as the sea level is still at the waterline.

If it was rising at the rates claimed, the lower gun deck would be awash after more than 225 years.

Hey, it makes just as much sense as most of their claims!

Now you've done it!!! They'll be loading her down to make her ride lower in the water as proof that the sea level is rising.

To help them out, we should tie ropes to their ankles, and weights to their wrists, and see how much rope plays out by the time they hit bottom. And of course, since they're attached, we can pull them back up, no worries. Thanks ApplegateRanch.

I expect James Hansen to be 6ft below ground level before we see a 6mm rise in sea level. And may God rest his wicked soul.

Respectfully disagree. While Ms Lee would no doubt do yeoman's work on such a project, there's another in congress with a stronger résumé on such matters.
