Hey Rush, in the event you have someone reading this thread. Are not ‘mandates’ taxes without representation. IF insurance companies are required to cover this vaccine, WHO ultimately PAYs for the increase. The Governor could NOT mandate insurance companies absorb the mandate out of their profit margin. So what was mandated did NOT allow anyone who buys insurance to OPT out of getting an increased premium.

Bachmann can recover from the comment IMO. Since she only repeated what a mother told her, she can do some quick research and state that her research did not yield evidence of retardation.

I hope Palin does not follow Bachmann down this road, particularly now that she's fear mongering the vaccine which has proven safe and whose FDA approval has been expanded to include males and use against other HPV-related cancers.

Crony capitalism? The facts are on Perry's side. Here's the context of his order:

In 2005, the Texas legislature set a priority to eliminate cervical cancer mortality by 2015 (HB 2475). The legislation directed the state health agency to produce a report and deliver it to Perry by the end of 2006. It directed the state health agency to produce a report and deliver it to the governor by the end of 2006.

It did so and that report concluded the vaccine Gardasil made the goal attainable. That report says: Armed with this new HPV vaccine, we can achieve the moment when we know our goal — eliminating cervical cancer death and suffering — is in reach.

It details problems of getting the vaccine the widest coverage and to the demographic of women most in need of it: the poor. By making the order opt-out, rather than opt-in, he ensured insurance, Medicaid and other programs would cover it.

Perry goofed by taking the initiative himself, he's admitted this repeatedly. The $5K donation is statistical noise in a multimillion dollar campaign. This all needs to be seen in the historical context of the legislature's goals.

In 2007, there was only one approved source for such a vaccine, Merck. Now there's another, GlaxoSmithKline.

Like all people, they have their flaws. But social misfits? I don’t see that at all. Maybe, Ron Paul, but the rest are just ordinary people.

The surprise of the night to me was that CNN and Blitzer put on a better debate than FOX and NBC.

Got to agree; as hard as it is to say, Hats off to Wolfe for being the best moderator so far.

Obama is going to lose, no matter who the Republicans choose. My concern is getting a president that is effective and results oriented in taking on “big government”. That’s something I didn’t see on the stage last night.

The only one I would hire to run an ice cream truck would be Cain. The others would all scare the children. I am already over this election cycle.

Just a question, not trying to be rude, but why would the Texas Legislature “set a priority to eliminate cervical cancer...”? Is it that much of a problem in Texas?

It’s not the first time she’s repeated things without checking....just that stupid comment about Elvis’ Birthday....people remember and to me, it says alot about how she would react if in office. She’s not checking her sources...she’s too quick.... and I think if she were our candidate, Obama would get a second term.

Reminds me of the old joke about the prosecutor grilling the female witness:

Attorney: “Would you for a dollar $?”

Indignant female: “No! What do you think I am??”

Attorney: “Would you for a million $?”

Indignant female: “Well, yes.”

Attorney: “So, what you are is established; we’re just negotiating a price.”

When you engaged in your theoretical "increased premium" caused by a vaccine did you weigh it against the much larger savings of not having cervical cancer cases to treat?

As the saying goes an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

“Rush thinks Michelle may have jumped the shark for her “mental retardation” comments about Gardasil.”

RUSH is wrong about Bachmann.

Government mandates(even with “opt-out”/crony capitalism is a good issue. She needs to keep hammering away.

She remains the only conservative with a voting record to back it up on the stage.

Don’t forget - voting NO on TARP. NO on stimulus, NO on debt ceiling increase. NO on ObamaCare, etc etc.

Meanwhile, Perry has to shuck and jive. Sure he’s better than Obama, Huntsman, Romney. But I’d take Bachmann or Cain over him. Toss up between Perry & Newt & Santorum.

Me, too. I thought Newt did surprisingly well

I would have to give the win on last night's debate to Newt. His ideas and presence on the podium were very good. That trust factor, sitting on the couch with Pelosi, and beliefs such as those on climate change are his BIG weaknesses.

And Rush is out to lunch saying that Perry appears strong when he defends the indefensible re: illegal immigration.

I’m afraid Rush has spent too much time on the golf course with, yes, fat cat Southern Republican businessmen who, among other things, profit handsomely by hiring illegal and leaving taxpayers to pay the real cost of it.

Well, I think Rush is WRONG about Romney. Rush is saying that Huntsman and Paul ought to get out of hte race and run as Democats -- SO SHOULD ROMNEY. Rush talks about Romney trying to defend the indefensible -- Hello, Rush? ROMNEY IS INDEFENSIBLE!!

I love Rush, respect him, and value him. He's right 99.9 percent of the time. This is the .01 percent of the time that he's wrong. Romney is a menace, a political vampire, a statist. Romney should be rejected as soundly as Huntsman and Paul.

We are going to get the ball back. The question will be will we select a quarterback who is just going to move the chains a little or are we going to switch field position. I prefer someone who is going to back the other team against their own goal line. I don’t see that person in the current field. Hell, a couple would be no better than a three and out.

I agree. I hope RUSH is starting the “hold your nose” mantra 14 months out. Not a single vote has been cast yet.

Except there are no long term studies on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, and it doesn’t protect against all of the viruses that can cause cervical cancer.
