unusual short cycle. The solar minimums always have longer cycles (along with lower amplitude). The length of the solar cycle, irregardless of amplitude, is a better match to climate than amplitude. Longer = colder.

I would think that the area under the curve is the better match. Although the Dalton Minimum cycles (cycle 5 and 6 in the early 1800's)are twelve years long versus ten years for the Modern Maximum (cycle 19 in the 1950's), the dramatic difference is in the area under the curves.
