Well, if THAT’s the case. . . .
John Winger: Cut it out! Cut it out! Cut it out! The hell’s the matter with you? Stupid! We’re all very different people. We’re not Watusi. We’re not Spartans. We’re Americans, with a capital ‘A’, huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We’re the underdog. We’re mutts! Here’s proof: his nose is cold! But there’s no animal that’s more faithful, that’s more loyal, more loveable than the mutt. Who saw “Old Yeller?” Who cried when Old Yeller got shot at the end?
[raises his hand]
John Winger: *sarcastically* Nobody cried when Old Yeller got shot? I’m sure.
[hands are reluctantly raised]
John Winger: I cried my eyes out. So we’re all dogfaces, we’re all very, very different, but there is one thing that we all have in common: we were all stupid enough to enlist in the Army. We’re mutants. There’s something wrong with us, something very, very wrong with us. Something seriously wrong with us - we’re soldiers. But we’re American soldiers! We’ve been kicking ass for 200 years! We’re 10 and 1! Now we don’t have to worry about whether or not we practiced. We don’t have to worry about whether Captain Stillman wants to have us hung. All we have to do is to be the great American fighting soldier that is inside each one of us. Now do what I do, and say what I say. And make me proud.
A nation of mutts, sez the pedigreed metrosexual poodle Brooks.
David Brooks is the house conservates, or at least neocon, at the NY Times.
Oh, boy! Another quote from a movie without identifying the movie. You should be banned for a month.
Kind of related.
I judge people by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin, or what part of the world they come from. Innocent until proven guilty. Yet I see civilization descending into chaos before I die.

At least all the mutts qualify for Affirmative Action.
We ought to tally the environmental cost of these new immigrants.
Big mutt.
Oh goody! Then our new “citizens” can create the same paradises as the ones they created in their countries of origin! Detroit, coming to a city near you!
What “American of European descent” would want to be here anyway, to enjoy the “vibrancy” of such a prospect?
I just wish all these white haters-excuse me, I meant “lovers of die-versity”- would put their Section 8 roach motel dream schemes in their own neighborhoods rather than forcing middle and working class taxpayers to be their lab rats-after all, if there’s no threat of disproportionate crime and other dysfunctions, why wouldn’t they want all that “die-verse vibrancy” right in their own back yards?
Re: “It will just speed up the arrival of a New America that is already guaranteed.”
False.
It is NOT guaranteed.
If we had the political will, we could end massive low skill Third World immigration this afternoon.
If we had the political will, we could import ONLY the world’s elite intellectuals and elite producers.
Yeah...we are a nation of mutts...but it used to be that the educational system taught the mutts how to be Americans. Today...all that’s taught is that America is bad, and needs the progressives to reteach us all.
All I can think of, it takes one to know one, from the runt of the Conservative litter, Brooks.
While I disagree with the article on points I will state that I am a proud Mutt. I’m Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, and German that I know of. My daughters have added Japanese. I’m proud of my muttiness.
I’m ok with the idea of a melting pot. But here’s the key a melting pot combines the different elements to form an alloy. Alloys typically end up with the best of each element that went into forming them and demonstrate new properties all together from the parent metals.
We’re not a cornicopia or basket full of goods, with each item differentiated and seperate. We’re an alloy of heated metals brought together for a common purpose. That purpose is liberty and the quest for something better. Alone or as a group we have a responsibility, yea a destiny to move toward something greater than what has been.
To do so means not to lay back and bask on our past achievements or rely on others to fend for our needs; but to strive, to exert and thereby to grow in the forging stresses into something that is better than what we were before.
Provided with free choice we take from each element what is best of our own free will. This is what it means to be an American.
Funny, I don’t recall being asked if I wanted this. I don’t remember voting for it.
third-world America turns them on
“Oh, boy! Another quote from a movie without identifying the movie. You should be banned for a month.”
Stripes...funny.
“That’s a fact, Jack”
