It's too bad we don't have a method to report just how heavy taxes are in our product chain. Each process in the chain could report their tax/regulation costs for categories on a product, sales tax, property tax, etc..

Then, every product carries with it a sum total of all the taxes that have been collected in order to get it to the shelf, this would include gasoline/tobacco.alcohol, etc. When the consumer finally gets the product, the tax load for their purchase is listed on the rcpt so everyone could finally realize the TRUE scope of their tax burden and how it gets passed down from those evil rich bastagez whom everyone loves to hate, and pulled from their wallets. If people could only see that they are giving government the majority of their income, some things might just change. It would unfortunately put a heavy burden on the producers to track it all

In this crazy world, I would rather see a USA Debt payment tax than this stupid ACA. At least the USA Debt Payment tax would be helpful to the country. The ACA is horrible and not worth paying for.

“At least, they don’t hide it in a price increase.”

Charging this (to me) seems no different than companies adding “fuel surcharges to invoices; while some would say the price of fuel had gone up, I’d say the dollar had simply fallen (and the “increased fuel prices” were just symptoms of our unreported inflation from running the printing presses 24/7).

I won’t patronize an establishment that tacks on this charge.

Why is that? Not trying to pick a fight - just trying to understand why some FReepers don't seem to be okay with this.

"I won’t patronize an establishment that tacks on this charge."

Everyone is tacking it on and it's hidden in product price increases. this guy is just separating it out as a line item so you can see the effects of the new ACA expenses.

If I was in the restaurant biz that’s what I would do (i.e., roll the 1% into the price). But 1% is just the beginning of a slippery slope of more increases to come.

We are very selective about where we eat out (only a few favored establishments that offer good value). And we know price changes when they occur. Even small ones. Nothing gets past my wife! :)

Paying $2.49 for an iced tea. Grrrrr.

In a place like that, it usually means unlimited refills. It's a restaurant, profit margins generally kinda low. You aren't paying for the tea, you are paying for the service. Water's still likely free if you like.

Pay the ACA and don’t tip. That should rile some folks. You can say it’s one or the other. Then too, I bet restaurant traffic will slow some.

The restaurant's the good guys here!

They are refusing to bury Obama's hidden tax in the food cost. The money is going to Obamacare and they are correctly labeling it as such.

It isn’t outrageous or new.

It applies across the board, in all areas.

When I was in the freight forwarding business and TSA and other
government agencies required new fees or steps in the process..
why, we just upped our billing accordingly. Duh. New line items
on the invoice. Pretty standard stuff. This latest crap is no different
and is invariably passed on to the customer, the end user.

First, IMO this charge will grow over time. Who thinks it will be static and remain at 1%? This is the proverbial slippery slope.

Second, Obamacare is increasing medical care and device costs, raising premiums for many people (including my own sons), damanging the economy through reduced employment, and is causing doctors to retire (mine already did). I think that we need to do whatever we can, regardless of how small, to resist the onslaught of new charges, fees or taxes. Whatever you want to call them. To do otherwise is to be passive in the face of ever expanding government control.

Drink prices, even for iced tea, have gotten so high that we just drink water in restaurants .... on the rare occasion we ever eat out.

recently the place where I work had a big poster saying that due to enviromental issues, they would no longer put your food in styrofoam....instead, now they use a solid tan colored plastic container...and charge you $.25 for it....

I have to remind myself that fast food places charge extra for take outs as well...

It would be foolish to blame a restaurant or a server for having to raise their prices as a result of 0care. It's not their fault. They're just doing what they have to in order to survive.

I'm actually glad they're doing this and wish more restaurants would follow. It will piss people off and hopefully make them think about the repercussions of electing Marxist democrats.

You have zero choice.
You will patronize a restaurant that tacks on this charge because obamacare is extracting the money from all of them. They must pass that cost on to their customers. Period.

They may raise prices across the board, or they may list it as a surcharge as these people are doing.

There is no money tree.

This charge is not a charge by the gov’t added to the bill but rather by the restaurant owner in order to recouperate the additional costs he is incurring due to 0care. You buy your food elsewhere, but you will be hard pressed to escape the additional costs that 0care is adding to EVERYTHING. Most places are just raising their prices, as another post pointed out, at least this restaurant is being honest about it.
