Carrington style events always follow low solar activity periods.
Why, I haven’t the foggiest.
I personally suspect it deals with deep solar structures and how they behave during and after a deep solar minimum.
It may be that pressure builds up over a long time, during the low activity, and then, like a pressure cooker, the weakest point finally gives way to relieve that pressure.
We have been very lucky that it was not pointed in our direction when they happened.
Of course, before the age of electronics, nobody would have noticed, except those seeing the Northern Lights.....................
yeah but, the year is 2014 and this CME happened two years ago in 2012 and just now, someone notices!!!
Talk about global warming. Where is Algore when you need him.
According to unnamed or forgotten sources, Robert Mitchum said the only thing he learned at Betty Ford was to put 2 ice cubes in his Scotchy instead of drinking it neat. (To dilute the booze!)
That’s just wrong on SO many levels!
Is it 5 O’clock anywhere, yet? ;)
