It has hit terminal velocity, just as the jumper has. Relative to each other, they are almost standing still.

The meteorite has stopped burning because it’s lower in the atmosphere. It’s not smoking, but I bet it’s red hot inside.

Everything slows to terminal velocity. It’s a gravity thing.

I had considered the motion of the jumper, but he is opening his chute, isn’t he?

Oh wellk... the photos showing the MOTION of the object are def. pretty cool though

Its stunning to believe rocks that size just fall from the sky

A new addition to the article:

Follow-Up on Skydiving Meteorite: Crowdsourcing Concludes it Was Just a Rock

For all those involved with the initial investigation of the skydiver and the possible meteorite, they now feel they have resolution to their puzzle, thanks to the beauty of crowdsourcing. The rock that showed up in a video taken during a skydive in Norway in 2012 was likely just a rock — accidentally packed in the parachute — and not a meteoroid.

Thanks Yo-Yo. “Crowdsourcing” is off its rocker, unless “Crowdsouccing” was made up 100 percent of skydivers who pack their own chutes. IOW, “Crowdsourcing” can go to bed with (I’m cleaning this up) Snopes and The Straight Dope.

Normally I'd agree, but in this case I'll believe the NASA planetary scientist who included velocity charts in his analysis.

From the story I linked to:

The group welcomed all the input (and criticism) but were especially swayed by the ballistics analysis provided by NASA planetary scientist Dr. Phil Metzger, who posted his investigation on Facebook.

Charts and a long explanation is at the link I provided earlier.
