These parents aren't poor or unemployed. They can afford to give their child some privacy, but they choose not to.

Elvis was born in a very similar house too.

The bathroom that Elvis died in was probably bigger than the house in this article.

Who are you to tell others how to live?

These parents are choosing to prevent their child from having any privacy. That's wrong.

A lot of our forefathers lived in houses about this size out in the heartland of America.

Sometimes with a lot more than one child.

Back then, many people starved to death or froze to death, but not by choice. People back then did the best they could. This current family is choosing to not let their child have any privacy.

Birthplace replica of Laura Ingalls Wilder's home, Pepin, WI. Cabin contains a fireplace, two bedrooms, a loft, originally surrounded by a dense hardwood forest when Laura was born. Seems to be 3rd of several homes for the Ingalls family.

Kind of like the Seinfeld episode where Kramer installs a garbage disposal in his shower so he can do dishes and get clean at the same time.

A 160 square foot “House for roughly 30k is friggen insane. Even if it’s Massachusetts . As for it being roomy enough for a family of three only if you are under 5ft. tall! Hell Menards ( a big box home improvement store) will build a two car garage on prepoured concrete slab for less than 10 grand, these folks got raped & are to clueless to know it.

That’s what I’ve been thinking of. We went to the Ingall’s Museum in S. Dakota where the farm was. Small house - but bigger than this. Maybe 1.5x bigger at first. And then Pa put on an another room (the “master” bedroom).

I’m guessing their sod home on the banks of Plum Creek in Minnesota was much smaller.

. I’d also consider the expense of heating and cooling, and how easy they might be to break into.

I've seen on the local news- San Antonio/Austin area, people having their tiny house stolen.

That would awful to come home, and your house has vamoosed.

My wife and I did the same thing 8 years ago.

Moved from a 2000sf house to a two bedroom apt. while we remodeled the house (ended up not selling it) and then one year later moved into this fulltime.

We were both in our late 50's, and the kids were grown with families of their own.

In the last eight years we've traveled over 80,000 miles, everywhere from Key West to Fairbanks, AK, and from San Diego to Newfoundland.

When we hit the road, our kids thought we were crazy. One bet we wouldn't last six months, and the other gave us six weeks. Now they both really envy us.

Don't wait too long. We know people that kept putting it off till 'next year', and then someone got sick, someone died, etc.

I have see some interesting housing solutions from japan, via internet not in person. Also as you say out of Europe
I have been looking at smaller places, for couple of years. Mentioned to family member that perfect size house for me, would be approx 400 sq feet.
Place to eat, sleep, bathe and read a book.

however garage/workshop might be somewhat larger.:)

Interesting photos. Amazing how messy even a small place can get! I shouldn't talk. I built a home “office” in the back of my garage - 6’x13’. Enough for a corner desk, file cabinets, plenty of table space and a drafting table. I've even slept down here with the fold-out camping cot!

I suppose if I got rid of the drafting table I could get a full-size fridge, small stove and microwave in there.

And, um, a bucket to take care of other necessities if I really had to. Luckily I'm still allowed in the house for that! And unlike the people in those photos, I even have a nice large window to look out of. Or to climb through in the event of a fire. (That is scary looking at those photos with all the electrical appliances in various states of disrepair!)

Oh, baloney. I had older cousins who lived in houses about that small and they had kids. I can not remember how many years they lived in them since I was just a kid and theirs were a few years younger than I. They have a choice to live where they want to. It only concerns them.

I've been in $300K sailboats that did not have as much usable living space as this tiny house!
It's small, but it seems very well constructed.

My wife and I recently went to a RV show and looked at some trailers in the $20 to $75K price range. This tiny house is constructed much better and uses much better materials than a new trailer in the same price category.

Would I want to live in this house full time? No!
However, just because it's small does not mean it's a piece of junk.

My wife and I do plan on living on a boat when we retire, but it will be a “Dock Queen” 40 to 50 foot houseboat that almost never leaves the marina.

If anyone wants to live full time in this tiny house, more power to them. However, I pray there never comes a time when the gov’t says, “You MUST live in a tiny house.”

“What is abusive is to live greatly beyond your means and swimming in debt.”

Well said. I know three men who lived that way and they ended up killing themselves when the $$$$ ran out.
Now THAT’S what I call abusive parenting....a kid NEVER gets over that experience.

BTW, all three of them were nice, friendly, church going men.
It’s not just the libs who worship at the alter of money when all is said and done.
