Our snow pretty much melted away — and then today we got another 3 inches. We’ll have a white Christmas, and then it should be gone — again.

THE BALTIMORE CONSORT: BRIGHT DAY STARWilliam Dunbar, a Scottish Renaissance poet, started this song with the Latin words of the Advent liturgy. The words anticipated the Second Coming and Judgment Day in addition to Christmas itself. The text is from Isaiah. Custer LaRue sings.

Nice to see they’re so popular! I always enjoyed seeing them at the clubs. Nice guys and I love their music. This is one of my faves because it has a haunting melody, and I like haunting melodies. :-)

THE BALTIMORE CONSORT: BRIGHT DAY STARWe arent the first generation to decry the commercialization of Christmas. William Chappell, editor of a collection of such ballads: So long as landlords received their rents in kind, their barns and stores were full, they were lavish of hospitality to the country folk at Christmas. When rents began to be paid in less bulky forms of money, luxury increased and ladies began to spend more on their dress. This song is wonderfully funny, and the arrangement emphasizes the humor. Custer LaRue has fun with this one.

Still cold and I saw a lot of blue up there on the radar. Glad Old Man Winter’s staying up there and not down here for now. LOL! Rain and warm suits me juuuuust fine.
COOL to finally “meet” your kids! Good looking kids too. Glad you’ve gotten to spend time with both of them, especially since you don’t get to see your daughter all that often.

Better y’all than us down here. LOL!
We don’t get white Christmases very often but it’s usually a lot colder than we’ll have this weekend. They’re now calling for 70 degrees Sunday!
Not quite as warm as Aruba but we’ll take it. LOL

TCHAIKOVSKY: THE NUTCRACKERThis ballet failed at its premiere, and it took a long time to catch on with the public. Today its one of the most beloved orchestral and dance works in the repertory, a holiday perennial. The story is by E. T. A. Hoffmann, the great German fantasist of the early 19th Century.
The first act advances the plot, and the purpose of the second act is to show off the dancers moves.
This is the complete ballet, all 105 minutes of it, a Russian production from St. Petersburg taped in 2012.

Isn’t it interesting how many incredible pieces of music “failed at the premiere”?
