And the governor is currently in a primary fight with Ken Bennett, who has made McCain's successor a campaign issue. So if McCain resigns and Ducey appoints another McCain, he's toast in the August primary, and he's not doing too well anyway (see below link).
So look for McConnell pressuring McCain to come up with some other acceptable appointment other than his wife or daughter, so he can resign and McConnell will have another vote in the senate.

McConnell is VERY confident that he has the votes. He knows there are red state democrats who are up for reelection, and others, who will not be able to come up with any legitimate reasons NOT to confirm. There are plenty who don’t care that they have no legitimate reasons, but he only needs a small number. One of the few times I’m glad he’s Senate Majority Leader. He apparently has plenty of power, and he’s evidently beginning to realize he needs to support Trump.
Maybe God will intervene.

At any rate it is apparent that McCain absolutely hates Trump. And Trump reciprocates by tweaking MCCain on his deathbed.
I believe MCCain will have himself brought into the Senate chamber on a gurney to vote against whoever is nominated for the S.Ct. just to spite Trump.
McCain has been dead for a couple of months and is presently in a fetal position at the bottom of the family freezer.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he tries to destroy the chances of any Trump nominee.
He’ll do it saying he wanted to save the nation from the evils of Trump.
Theory: McCain won’t step down (shocker) Trump will go HARD right with his pick, force the DEMS and the soft Repukes to kill the nomination and run on that.
Ducey needs to publicly pressure McCain to resign. He is doing a disservice to Arizona by pretending to be “hanging in there” and communicating by any means other than in person.
