I travel for business a lot and so eat out a lot too. Seems like almost once a week I get some upset stomach from it. Don’t get me wrong there’s all of good eats out there but much of it is not and overpriced. When I’m home I rarely eat out. Recently I brought out the old 1985 electric Wok and experimenting some with various stir fry. That, my little electric grill and the gas one out back I’m enjoying eating homemade meals. A little more work but less cost and I know what goes into the food preparation and sanitary. Plus I can fix up an adult mixed drink without getting ripped off in price or content of ingredients.

“Much less messy to cook the bacon in the oven, too.”

Is is unless you drop the whole thing on the floor when removing it from the oven,as I did once.

Bacon fat all over the place-—and an absolutely delighted Sheltie.

I have actually witnessed people thrown out windows, had no idea there was a word for it.

Just another Latin loanword. One can say “de-window” just as easily.

The problem is you can’t get a good pepperoni anywhere south of New Jersey.

The 1947 Bugs Bunny cartoon “Slick Hare” parodies the Los Angeles nightclub Macumbo, a hangout for the Hollywood Elite. While making the cartoon, the animators got a look into the kitchen and drew it in the cartoon just like they saw it, complete with grease dripping from the stove, greasy hand prints on the refrigerator and crates of vegetables sitting on the floor. Reportedly, after the cartoon came out, the animators were banned from the nightclub.

Not a higher chance. According to a Yale University study (and a few others) a 30 TIMES higher chance for those that engage in fecal ‘sex’.

Cooking in a modern kitchen with all the right ingredients for your meal, isn’t difficult.

The art comes in with finding the best ingredients, as some brands are superior in taste and flavor, and often fresh beats canned. And also knowing how to tweak a recipe, and in some cases knowing what might be an acceptable substitute for something.

And the kitchen may be clean and the chefs may be, the wait staff and those in charge of wiping stuff down, may not be.

I rarely eat out. I never get sick from food.

"If you are ever in St. Pete Beach, go to Pass-A-Grille, the southernmost part of the beach and try Genarro’s; family owned for at least 30 years now. The only place around here that makes good gnocci and you can get a great veal parm."

Got it, thanks! We're thinking about cruising over to the west side/Gulf. It's on the list!

"Is it older then Archies?"

I think it's only been there 5 or 6 years. I haven't tried Archies - good Italian? I'll be down there in a few weeks.

$8-12 is worth when you avoid trip to grocery store to buy a list of items required to cook the menu item, buying paper napkins, washing the pans & pots, washing silverware and dinner plates, not to mention electricity & water & detergent consumed by the dish washer, cleaning the dining table after eating, cost of gas burned to cook the food etc etc.

But yes, it is cheaper to cook at home, especially if there are more than 2 people in the family. For DINCs (double income no children) it is so much more convenient to eat in restaurants. We in America are so lucky to have very reasonable restaurant prices compared to Western Europe, Australia, Japan, and all big cities elsewhere except Washington DC.

After 3 food poisoning incidents in the last 18 months, I ceased eating at a local major chain location. It's just too damn painful to go through 8 hour of agony and puking to take a chance again. The problem is clearly in the kitchen and there is no way for me to know who's cooking on a given visit.
