By the way, the neighborhood of Rosslyn in Arlington, Virginia did this. Every food eatery went out of business within weeks, except Chipotlé and an Asian cafeteria. Of course, the “lunch trucks” are only there from like 12-2, so if you want food at other times, tough luck.
(To be fair, with lower rents, some new restaurants moved in. There’s a Starbucks, a Wiseguys, a Chopt, etc., but not a quarter as many as there used to be.)
I hear ya, the bottom line on a restaurant is minimal AND it is HARD WORK with unbelievable hours involved!! This is such BS Brown is an IDIOT!! Folks are fleeing this state and NOW small restaurant owners will be run out of business!! I personally would NEVER eat at one of these BUT now that the state is DAMNED NEAR all Hispanic these street vendors should be very busy!!!
Hmmm....sate. Yummm
food borne illness rates would quickly put the street vendor out of business so it’s in his best interest to serve food that brings people back to buy more.
In contrast the state health department calls the local restaurant a week in advance at least and lets them know they have an inspection coming up soon. The restaurant then gets things up to speed and a serious housecleaning is had by all for the next week. They pass with flying colors, pay the fee and all is well..... Until someone gets sick. Are the inspectors heard accountable? Is the state? Nope. Just another way for them to generate revenue through permits, fees and fines.
I say if the street vendors don’t need permits and inspections than restaurants shouldn’t either.
Make California Mexico Again
[ Going price should be 1,000 pesos and two avocados. ]
Add in the life of your own daughter for some of that wonderful exotic food!
Well, that is what Molly Tibbet’s father thinks is a fair price for having that exotic food instead of that bland northern European food....
[ Does this include pot dispensaries? ]
Well crap, maybe I can just start selling pot on california streets???
I could franchise as a big wig tycoon of a “undocumented street pharmacy”
“Turn LA into TJ.”
It has been for years. Just wondering what Beverly Hills will do when the Mexican Illegals set up shop on Rodeo Drive. Los Angeles County made it’s bed with the illegals decades ago. I don’t know why and white person would live down there today. Whites are going to need to be behind walls there with guard gates.
See how progressive California Health Care is, now medical personnel once again make house calls!
Pretty soon everyone is going to be unemployed and selling pencils at intersections, so this is probably needed.
Calls will be made and they will be chased out of Beverly Hills and will go into middle class and below areas
This is from that same nutcase, Lara, that wants to keep cows from farting. Idiocy is destroying the once great Golden state.
This is the exact opposite of what we need out here.
We don’t need more unregulated, unsanitary, unaesthetic, clutter blocking streets, sidewalks and business entryways!
Is this Gov. Brown’s last year? I hope so.
Twenty years ago I was calling on customers in East L.A., and noticed the incredible sight of numerous illegal street restaurants/cafes set up on the sidewalks literally in front of established MacDonald’s, Burger King, Church’s, KFC’s, and other legal health department complying businesses.
These make-shift “restaurants/cafes”, all serving South del border menus had shoddy picnic tables, cardboard for partitions, and at least did have trash cans in the vicinity of their activities albeit unused. The “facilities” were enjoying considerable business from locals one could tell of a culture dissimilar to that most Americans understand.
I went into the Burger King, and the employees that greeted me all had heavy Latino accents, but spoke English well, and were seemingly happy somebody came into their restaurant.
It would be interesting to return today, twenty years later, and see how many of those legitimate, health department compliant restaurants are still in business along that particular restaurant row.
I remember that ‘story’.
The real issue was that the young girl was screaming right outside of this lady’s window as she tried to sell her waters. Race had nothing or little to do with it.
Plus, the girl did not have a food handlers permit.
For many people, dealing with noise pollution and food handler permits requires too much thinking. It’s far easier to rubber stamp an unpleasant experience with the word
RACIST! and then play the wronged victim.
I’m looking forward to getting one of those tamales made right on the sidewalks of San Francisco. That fecal dust will surely add much to the flavor.
