If you like nationalism, you will like tribalism even more.
The easiest way to govern is to organize the people against external forces and threats.

“If we think our interests may only come first and we dont care for others, it is a treason of our values, a betrayal of all moral values, he said. We must remember this.”
OK. Then practice what you preach. Put your interests aside, accept President Trump and care about the United States’ values. Otherwise Macron is being a nationalist and committing treason.

Dissent (againt Republican Administrations)
is the highest form of patriotism.

Tell it to the French citizens who have to live with no go zones in the middle of Paris.

Technically correct. Being patriot for England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, etc. Is treasonous to the EU Borg State

The political structure that arose after the armistice was a well intentioned nightmare. --------

Why are the streets of Paris all lined with trees?
Because the Germans prefer to march in the shade.

Indeed Britain should. But they couldn't. In 1905, the "Liberal" (ie socialist) party came to power. They proceeded to introduce a lot of social "reforms", in effect laying the foundation of the welfare state that is currently bankrupting the country. They paid for some of this by borrowing, and some by cutting back on Britain's armed forces.
One result was that the Royal Navy was too weak to defend the entire sea route to India and beyond. The "solution" was an unofficial alliance with France, under which the French navy would agree not to intervene in the event of war.
This pretty much obliged Britain to ally with France, should a general European war break out. And an alliance with a France that was doing its best to foment just such a war was, of course, madness. But, as always, Liberals never think through the consequences of their actions.
