Not perfect, a man shaped by his times. An honored veteran, a family man who raised leaders. A good husband, possessed of a wonderful sense of humor. A loyal vice president during the golden Reagan years. Loyal to his own vice president when he was continually attacked by the media. Always congenial, an inspiration to seniors in his later years. He had his own opinions, which often conflicted with more conservative FReepers here. But all in all, a very meaningful life, well-lived. Godspeed, Mr. President.

Wasn’t his dad the first treasurer of Planned Parenthood?

Was, or wasn’t invited? Which one would be a disgrace?

A New England RINO who became a TX transplant.

There’s nothing conservative about him and when I was a liberal, I never warmed up to the guy.

Reagan was hoodwinked too, about immigration and Supreme Court justices. They are all susceptible.

I can’t think one thing he did as President that’s memorable.

The guy knew how to prosecute wars.

If he had put Baker as his VP in 1992, he would have stayed on as president.

The media damaged Quayle and Bush by then.

Reagan had values and Bush was never really big on ideology.

What’s a kinder and gentler conservative? Never figured out where he stoid.

Didn’t hate the man, but I sure disagreed with him at times.

Carter, Clinton, and Obama were measurably worse.

Unfortunaately, he and his family were globalists.

RINOS of the first order.

So young—and off to war.

His actions during WWII are somewhat suspect. Hailed as a hero, but marred by the deaths of his crew when his plane was shot up.

On September 2, 1944, the plane he was piloting was hit by Japanese fire during a bombing run over Chichi Jima, a small island in the Pacific. Bush successfully parachuted to the ocean surface, where he was rescued. His two crew members perished.

... there are two unresolved issues: What did Bush know of his crew members’ fate? And how badly was his plane hit at the moment when he decided to bail out?

...Navy regulations dictate that officers who are thought to have abandoned crew members could be court-martialed.

... In 2002 he told the author James Bradley that he had not known the fate of either of his crew members.

Democrats love him now that he’s dead.

Dead Republicans suddenly become likable. Funny how life works out.

The most memorable thing I remember him for as president was he disappeared like a mouse during the LA riots.
