Of course not. No need to expect people to be rational and responsible when uncle sugar takes care of everything for them.

On the other hand, the NPS should have had better sense than to leave the gates open. They should have been able to know this would happen.

Shut down means just that. Close the doors. Life will go on and the world will keep on turning just the same.

Return the land to the states where it belongs.

In most cases the states never owned the land in the first place because they didn't want it.

Predictable shutdown news story. Every shutdown comes with a story about the national parks to pressure a Republican surrender.

The Donald should just close the parks for the duration.

Yosemite isn’t that far from the bay area. When ‘Frisco is full of feces they have to go somewhere else to take care of “business”.

Apparently thrash collection is only a problem in the more remote areas. From the Yosemite Park web site -

Restrooms and Trash Removal
National Park Service-provided services are limited. Restrooms at or near concession facilities remain open. Facilities not located near concession facilities are closed due to reductions in staffing. Dispose of trash in a dumpster or trash can that is not full in order to protect wildlife and avoid a citation/fine. Do not leave trash on top of or next to a dumpster or trash can, or stuff trash into a full one. Carry your trash to a dumpster or trash can at a hotel or store that is open and has a dumpster or trash can that is not full.

“Just like San Francisco”

No, because in Yosemite, there are no elevated freeways to take a crap under. Or pitch a tent.

Years ago, we tried to go to some beach in FL. It was nothing but ash tray garbage. I’m not kidding, more cig butts than sand. I’ve yet to figure that out. It’s like it was intentionally gathered up, stored over years and then dumped on the beach. Really weird.

In SF property owners should be forced to maintain a porta potty on there property and if they don’t the homeless should be allowed to use the space as needed.

Some people just live that way. If they’re done with something, it’s someone else’s problem.

Just yesterday I was talking with someone whose business is cleaning parTking lots for businesses. He said pelple leave all kinds of things for “someone else” to deal with. Things like dirty diapers, fast food wrappers, broken bottles, etc etc.

This is in Texas and the businesses are patronized by people of all backgrounds.

Some people are just- trashy. And some do, indeed, live that way at home as well.

And so? If there’s any fault to be assigned it’s on congress for NOT coming up with a bill that can be supported in a bi-partisan way.

Zion NP in UT has a state highway running through part of it. When the criminal/fraud nobama was prez and closed the parks, they threatened to fine anyone stopping and taking pictures of the mountains along the road. Tyrannical lunatic LIB losers.

Someone left a used stereo and a receiver in a shopping cart at the Wal-Mart.
I did a search and the same thing is on eBay for around $120.

I moved to Idaho in 2000. Sold the house in Mira Mesa (San Diego). No regrets. Now I own two nice houses free and clear. I have fewer days when the roads are suitable for riding my motorcycles. That was nearly daily in San Diego as a commuter. My employment eats 55 to 90 hours A WEEK. Hoping to cut that back closer to the 40 that I'm actually paid to work in 2019. We started the morning at -8F. Forecast expects -10F tomorrow morning. Swim suits optional. The best part of 2018 was no out of state travel for business. I only have to file my taxes in Idaho this year instead of Idaho, CA, and NE.

Bring warm clothes. It was -8F in Pocatello this morning. The park tends to be a lot colder. The earliest I go each year is early April. Roads are plowed, but still lots of snow falling a blustery winds. You may be limited to "snow coach" and/or snowmobile access this time of year.

I wish it was just butts (which are gross enough); most of our beaches here in NJ have banned smoking, and while I enjoy a smoke I don’t mind the law (your story indicates the need for it).
