Bic is a copy-catter of Gillette.

Can't stand the razors, but that's my skin. I can get away with the bottom end Gillettes, though.

Remember the Gillette Cricket Lighter? Or the copy-cat "Flick my Bic"? Brilliant market-taking take-down of the "originator" of the disposable lighter.

And of course, the writing instrument market battles.

I had to dig back to find it - I asked someone for it myself - be aware they’re deleting a lot of comments it seems so be sure to to give them a thumbs down in the lower right by the video.

Good for the market in general - I still hope people are walking away from Gillette.

But while the response to the ad has been largely negative, as the old saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

The Beeb approves. Unfortunately "there's no such thing as bad publicity" is hilariously wrong. If it weren't, the Beeb wouldn't bother bashing Trump so often.

It currently has 23,000 likes and 214,000 dislikes, at time of writing - and it's increasing all the time.

And this is with YouTube and Twitter deleting negative comments and dislikes. At one point, the Gillette ad on YouTube had 19,000 dislikes and then, like magic (wink, wink), the dislikes went to 5,000 while the likes stayed at the same number.

To further clarify, I think the “message” IS the problem because it’s slanted. It’s a broad-brush. It’s almost like claiming every woman is Susan Smith.

[Nobody I know enjoys being lectured as a customer]

This is the part I’m agreeing with. You provide a service or product for your customer. You don’t lecture them, totally agree.

Gillette is the official razor of the NFL.

Ok now it makes sense. Gillette is following the lead of the NFL. Piss off your customer base, then blame then for depressed sales.

I will be interested to see P&G’s financials after the end of the first quarter. Gillette might be in fire sale mode by that point.

Procter & Gamble - according to a 2016 report by Amnesty International palm oil provider Wilmar International, the world’s biggest palm oil grower in 2016 and supplier of raw materials to Procter & Gamble, profited from 8 to 14-year-old child labor and forced labor. Some workers were extorted, threatened, or not paid for work. Some workers also suffered severe injuries from toxic banned chemicals.

Ironic that this ad campaign was directed by Australian director Kim Gehrig, who has been accused of sexuaI abuse by 2 men & 5 women when they were minors. Her victim’s videos exposing Ms. Gehrig for being a predator have been on Youtube for a number of years - 1 dating back to 2010. Yet this paedophiIe is trying to smear the vast majority of men as predators & abusers? Gillette, did you even do a cursory background check on Ms. Gehrig’s Somesuch & Co. firm before hiring her to direct this campaign? Explain why your company’s associated with a predator whose actions lead to the suicide of one of her victims in 2016!!
