But while the response to the ad has been largely negative, as the old saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

The Beeb approves. Unfortunately "there's no such thing as bad publicity" is hilariously wrong. If it weren't, the Beeb wouldn't bother bashing Trump so often.

It currently has 23,000 likes and 214,000 dislikes, at time of writing - and it's increasing all the time.

And this is with YouTube and Twitter deleting negative comments and dislikes. At one point, the Gillette ad on YouTube had 19,000 dislikes and then, like magic (wink, wink), the dislikes went to 5,000 while the likes stayed at the same number.

Just sent Gillette the following e-mail:

To whom it may concern:

I am a 58 year-old man. I have used Gillette razors for my entire adult life - actually, since age 16. In those 42 years, I have never had imposed upon me so grievous an insult as that which was recently propagated by your “toxic masculinity” advertising campaign.

Perhaps it is the case that the executives of Gillette’s parent company, Proctor & Gamble, believe they may with impunity declare this so-called “gender war” of political correctness against myself and those of my sex? If so, then they are sorely misguided in their presumptuous attitude.

In fact, they have made the most amateur of errors against their customer base: entering the fray of the sociopolitical arena - a move guaranteed to alienate a substantial percentage of their customer base.

Perhaps P&G seeks to impress the “Millennial” generation; however, the reality is that P&G and Gillette have made this poorly-conceived attempt at a high cost indeed. For those of us who are principled and value our integrity above all else, let me respond that your calculated risk was a choice of poor judgment and bad business practice.

As for myself, I will never again purchase any product made by Gillette, nor any product produced or distributed by Proctor & Gamble. I trust you will understand my “business” decision.
