The Left-controlled states would escalate their vote fraud.

California alone would easily manufacture millions of extra votes.

States wanting to preserve the EC need to pass counter laws stating that their state’s EC votes always go to who the EC winner would have been if the national popular vote was not a factor used by any other state.

This way even if 270 EC votes can be corralled by the Anti-EC states, it only takes one pro-EC purple state to undo that if their state went for the original EC loser but popular vote winner.

This Rat knows damn well what this endeavor is all about...it is the graphic of posted by Fiddlstix at #16:

And as cableguymn says at post #19, yeah, it would be funny when Trump wins the popular vote in 2020, but the point is, as worth it as it would be to see their heads explode when that happens...

...I don't want to do that for the worthwhile laughs it would provide. This is violating the well founded spirit of what the Electoral College was put in place to prevent.

I LOVE this.... Dems cannot benefit from this Pact at all... either the Blue states give their EVs to the Dem candidate that unsurprisingly earned them... or else they give their EVs to the GOP candidate who didn’t earn them. Not one EV will be taken from the GOP candidate in this system, but the Dem candidate stands to lose hundreds of EVs.

The left wants the Hunger Games. Large elite cities ruling over the rural and suburban areas.

Am I correct in saying that as far as a Presidential election goes, there is NO SUCH THING as a national popular vote? It is purely a media creation.

This is the type of thing that could trigger a civil war. A number of states colluding against the others.

That’s a mess waiting to happen.

These a-holes also want to lower the voting age and of course let in a 100 million third world voters. If we do nothing, they will get their way. This country is going to be ripped to shreds.

Should something like this go into effect, look for vote counting fraud as a natural consequence.

Up until now, there was no reason to inflate the numbers since a state's clout in a presidential election is predetermined by the decennial census, not votes for the candidates.

When you consider that big city politicians will pay overtime to have "transients" and "temporary residents" added to their census rolls--because more people means more federal funds--this electing by popular vote plan fits right in with their lust for power.

And it doesn't even require fudging numbers on the census. The machine in many cities will have an incentive to pay everyone with a pulse to vote their way once, twice, as many times as necessary.

But why go to the bother if you have the key to the counting machine?

Without paper ballots as evidence, who will be able to contest the results?

Now, I'm not accusing anyone of cheating before the fact. The temptation to boost the vote count has to be there, however, and it would be the death of our Republic if it could be proven. (Recall that in 1960, candidate R. M. Nixon declined to challenge the totals in two states which had "irregularities," on the grounds that contesting the election of John F. Kennedy might have devastating consequences for the nation.)

It's not a good idea to have the fedgov acting as referee in state elections; however, it may be impossible to certify honest vote counts in a few states unless there's federal oversight. Florida in 2000 comes to mind.

That's only one reason this is a bad idea. Circumventing the US Constitution is a better reason, but we all know there is a good segment of the population who say it is nothing more than a piece of paper, a relic of dead white males. Those types won't be convinced unless they recognize the potential harm this would cause to their socialist agenda.

Well there is a silver lining here. It will make a recount largely irrelevant in the blue states.

Reptiles should pass bills stating that they will give all electoral votes to the incumbent regardless how the state votes. Let’s see how much the crazies support that

"It's not only unfair that the second place candidate can win, it's also not good for the office of president or the country,” he said.

So we have someone who leads an organization dedicated to dismantling something, and he doesn't even know what it is. The President of the United States is just that - hence, he is elected by the STATES. Eliminating it undermines the very way our nation is constituted.

“Colorado state Rep. Emily Sirota (D), one of the sponsors of that state’s legislation, said she sees the compact “as a way to ensure that every vote is counted equally”

The Electoral College was designed specifically to prevent mob rule, and a few large cities dominating politics. This is what the dumb bint is advocating. The entire government system was setup in 1789 to preclude democracy, because it always and ever devolves into anarchy, discontent, license, agitation. Sound familiar? In point of fact the constitution guarantees a Republic.

“...and force candidates to campaign nationwide instead of targeting a few battleground states that can deliver success in the electoral math.”

Isn’t that cute. What would happen, is candidates wouldn’t bother with flyover country at all, instead campaigning in Florida, California, and New York. Don’t be fooled, the EC actually makes for a more rounded candidate, who must appeal to a more diverse set of constituents and balance policies. The same people who have been advocating this also want to get rid of the Senate. The 17th amendment led to direct election of senators via popular vote, another stupid idea. But they are not content with this - it’s not “fair” you see - that each state has 2 Senators regardless of population.

America - designed by geniuses, run by IDIOTS

Kinda wondering if they could actually succeed in banding only the blue states together for an election and they elect their Democratic President. That would be too surreal of course.

Easy to fix. Every conservative state report that they had a zillion gazillion votes, all for the (R) candidate. Leftard states can’t complain, they’re always getting more votes than they have people that live there, so it has to be legit.

This is rather simple....this tells me just how desperate blue states are....meaning, they know this election is going to end up wrong for their collective agenda.

We should encourage the blue states to refuse to appoint electors at all as part of their protest of the Electoral College.

A couple thoughts:

* The Constitution nowhere proscribes the form or source of elector votes; however, it essentially prescribes that electors represent a choice by citizens of respective States;
* The prohibition that “of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves” will be problematic to this scheme, as any winners of a so-called popular vote will likely be citizens of the same State should the vote be decided nationally (I know that’s obtuse but the logic is there...);
* By the logic of this scheme, a coalition of 270 EV states could in advance of any election decide to cast all votes for the Republican candidate;
* A practical effect of this scheme would be to launch electoral reform and enforcement voter ID / citizenship and fraud, as these are tolerated until now by the EC isolation of fraud to the states, whereas this scheme would nationalize the fraud;
* The one test-case on this regarding one-man-one-vote in Mass is not a serious test, so I wouldn’t count out rulings on the scheme as unconstitutional;
* Imagine if the Republicans were doing this to the Dems: oh, the outrage!
