Not the only factor, but a major one, yes.
I know a pair of twins. One is heterosexual and married; the other is homoerotic.
The latter one has been to Emergency Room with life-threatening IBS more than once. His belly is hugely distended.
I think they might be identical twins - but they are far from identical.
What takes place between two such males is erotic, not sexual.
Sex is inherently tied to reproduction; two males cannot reproduce.

HIV is contracted by anal sex with an infected person most of the time it is between two males. The male penus was not designed for the purpose of penetrating an anal opening although it is obviously possible. HIV is a gay male disease in the vast majority of cases. It is now in the general population because it is body fluid borne. Even so, it is not easily contracted by heterosexual contact.
What they are advancing with this “research” giving rise to this “theory” is that gays are genetically different than straights and that it’s just an accident of biology that they are more susceptible to contracting HIV. Thus it is not gay behavior that spreads the disease. Gays are just innocent victims of the “fact” that they are gay.
The difference is that sensual behavior between people is a choice while biology is involuntary.
This theory accomplishes two purposes. It allows gays to practice indiscriminate sex because they now “proved” that sexual behavior doesn’t cause HIV. It also establishes the “fact” that gays are biologically different than heterosexuals.
Rectum?
Ask me if a rational person, simply thinking about this, couldn’t figure this out.
I figured this out back in the 1990’s.
I don’t hate homosexuals. I think they’re pitiful. But, slightly off-topic, is anyone else bothered by an increase in gay and lesbian “conservatives” ? I put it in quotes, because I use that word in its total sense. I know we need every single vote, but while many, if not most of us here, seem to agree that homosexuality is a perversion and repulsive, we have no problem accepting their votes.
Just a thought. And maybe a sign of the times.
Remember, Andrew Sullivan calls himself a "conservative gay" man, and he voted for Obama.
Never, EVER trust a homosexual. They will turn and stab you in the back with an HIV-infected knife.
