I hope you are right. The Spanish flu did come back in the fall/winter. I think by the time it comes back around we would have to learn what to expect and how to deal with it.

If the P/E ratio was above a range of 14-16 the stock price/value was likely too high long before the corona virus, and should have been sold before the latest panic. If the P/E ratio was not above the 14-16 range, has solid financials in terms of debt to assets, and is a well run company then it’s likely to ride out the current panic and remain a “hold” stock.
What now is not the time for is to be mostly in index funds. They operate no better than the lemmings following the pied pipers of the markets to wherever their tune leads. They inflate and depress values on no more than following whoever is making actual stock-picking trades - which is no longer the majority of traders, which means the volume of trades via index funds - the followers - is being led by a minority of actual stock-picking traders. Such a market is ripe for manipulation of the many by the few. Goldman sucks is one of the few.

Uh, maybe because it broke out and has infected the most people so far that happen to live in Chinese cities. Extrapolating that to non-Chinese territory makes no sense.

I know there was a recession around the same time period as the Spanish Flu, was that the trigger?
The great depression did not come until the 30s. I think that was cause by the government responses to the recession. I have nothing to back that up, not a big researcher in that time period.
I will have to do some reading you have me interest in that time period now. History does repeat itself if you live long enough.

I don’t think their prediction is anything special or particularly prescient. Almost everybody on FR could have made the prediction they just made. No surprises there.
If you want to point fingers at those trying to keep Trump from being re-elected, I would focus on the Deep State cabal that has worked to that end for four years. They aren’t simply going to roll over, quiet down, and accept the results of the election. The timing of this pandemic is just too suspicious and it wouldn’t be hard for the CIA to get it started in Wuhan.

Well-I’m in good shape either way. I’ve put several 17 April 20 strangles in on QQQ, SPY, USO and I’ve shorted the VXX. I made money shorting the yen today on the S&P bounce - so let the good time roll - up or down.
Im in the ‘It’s probably going to fizzle out, but we just don’t know yet’ camp.
After I wrote my post, I thought about that scenario also. Make it look like the Chicoms helped, evn if they didn't. The locale certainly got the attention of Senator Tom Cotton. It is just not that hard to pull off.
But caution is exactly what you're not going to get if there's widespread panic. If the human race is ever going to be killed off, it will be through the mass application of some "cure" before the consequences of delivering said cure have been adequately assessed.
