I posted this on the other thread. Might give some folks some insight.
A ton of “emergency processes” cannot take effect until there is an “Emergency.”
Most Americans don’t realize the US government has been operating in an almost constant state of “emergency” since WWI.
It allows bureaucracy to be bypassed and for FEMA staging to take place. It would allow the FEMA warehouses to be opened and supplies “deployed” closer to the places that could be problematic.
On a state and local level it allows “the seal” on the emergency prep supplies to be broken and materials, processes, and expense budgets to be freed up.
It is a “technical” step. I should presented and regarded as such.
This is little different than preparing for, or reacting to a wide spread natural disaster.
Te step that would actually raise an eyebrow would be the activation of the Medical Corps and Civil Affiars elements of the Reserves. (Not the NG, not the 101st....) but the folks in San Antonio and other places.
Just some thoughts. Not any reason to “panic.”
There are cases in Texas. That site is strange today. Last night had over 1700 cases in US, now at 1268. This morning iran and Italy were missing. No Texas now, but was there this morning.
I need tp. None to be found. Heard people selling on E bay for $400. We need to ration it nationally like we did with gas in the 70’s. Line at local Costco wrapped around bldg twice! A Walmart in Oro Valley had to have a police escort to unload their truck yesterday I heard on local Tucson news.
Rush is nailing it.
Before Rats complained that Trump was a “Dictator”.
Now they’re complaining that he isn’t a “Dictator”.
Because this creates +1,400 potential carriers who can disperse and potentially infect others, less young, less resistant... who will in turn infect others.

Trump should announce that he is suspending the general elections in November.
The press will do a complete 180 and announced that the virus has been contained. All the lib Dems will be in panic mode.

I've come to the conclusion today that this is a strategy to minimize panic as the fedgov ramps up containment as they try to flatten the curve.

We’re kinda in that same boat as yourself. We only pull the dividend portion off the portfolio occasionally when we want to purchase something large, but don’t need or touch, the principal for anything at all.
Social media turns people into lemmings.
