Shelby Foote wad a great historian. Burns is a leftist, white guilt promoting propagandist. I didn’t have the stomach to watch his hit job on country music. I’m sure it took the six or eight episodes to document Charlie Pride’s heroic struggle against 100 years of the toothless, incestuous American hillbilly racism of country music,

I have far more respect for David McCullough or certainly Shelby Foote (RIP). I remember not long ago when Burns’ documentary on the Vietnam War was on, I’d share articles here from a site created and run by veterans who actually served there who challenged and basically nailed Burns to the wall over the good number of falsehoods and misrepresentations he presented in that documentary.

That is saying a lot, because Howard Zinn is pretty egregious...
I am a big history buff, and some years back, my mother-in-law gave me a book for Christmas.
I eagerly sat on the couch in my bathrobe, and with new books, I cannot resist opening it and beginning to read. At the time, I had no idea who Howard Zinn was, and the book was “A People’s History of The United States”.
Well, I began reading, and it was probably only about 15-30 seconds before my brow furrowed and my face likely had a “WTF?” look on it.
I paused, then opened the book a little further in, and read a little more. I repeated this process a few times, then in less than five minutes, I walked to the trash can in the garage, removed the lid, and deposited the distasteful turd of a book inside.
My mother-in-law was a lefty who was involved in city politics, and one Thanksgiving had invited the uber-leftist mayor over for Thanksgiving, someone I knew nothing about since I didn’t live there, but discerned over time what she was all about.
Her mother and I struck sparks early on when she would probe me with things that she was certain would provoke me, but I wasn’t shy about slinging it back. My wife, who is non-political, had words with her and her mother and I soon reached and equilibrium on these things.
As for the Howard Zinn book, my first thought was that it was another poke, but...as time passed, I think she just bought the book from the dollar rack at a book store, which was where it belonged.
I did like his series on The Old Negro Space Program.....
