Speaking of which the parkways built on Long Island and Westchester are....wait for eeet... RACIST! Supposedly when Robert Moses oversaw their construction he saw to it the overpasses were low clearance to keep busses off those roads, the idea being few Black people owned cars before WW2 and it would discourage them from moving into the suburbs. Moses was open about his contempt for Blacks but even if that were his intentions it wouldn’t have had much of an effect since the railroads and bus companies were already expanding service into the suburbs.
