And I don’t think it has a cigarette lighter.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

If you are stranded in a boat with a pack of cigarettes but no way to light them, what do you do?

Throw one cigarette overboard. Now the boat is a cigarette lighter.

...riddle from the very first Batman movie. Adam West knew the answer.

Speaking of ‘great’ expectations for engineered products, and the hype that accompanies them........

How’s the hyperloop going out in California, now that funding of the boondoggle is expected to dwindle or disappear altogether, especially when governments won’t have the dough to pay for any of it (not that they had it to begin with).

I like Ginger on Gilligan’s Island better.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I think I may have liked Mary Anne when I was younger. But I’m with you now. Ginger is beautiful. I saw her in some other movie and she stood out there also.

My other realization about Gilligan’s Island as I got older is that I never gave Mrs. Howell the credit she deserved for being hilarious. I also never fully appreciated how funny Shemp was from the Three Stooges. I think it’s time for me to go to bed.

I remember in the late early 2000s I worked at TI, and codename Ginger was a big deal. Turned out to be one of the biggest flops ever.

Yeah, I remember the hype around this. It was going to revolutionize human transportation. I think Amazon was a partner initially. People looked goofy driving them, they were outrageously expensive and, as the article said, there were several high-profile crashes.

I had to stop and think about that for a good minute.
Then I ‘forced’ to laugh.
It’s a good riddle.

I recall seeing GWB riding one of the first Segways.
The device threw him off as though it was a Buckin’ Bronco.
He would have fallen flat on his face, if not for some quick footwork. Nowadays, that moment would instantly become a GIF, like the one with Hilary walking up the plane stairs, then trip-falling at the top.

I remember. So much hype over this.

YES! It was supposed to make us reconstruct the infrastructure of every town and city, reconfigure our entire way of life.

Then it came out, and virtually everyone immediately ignored it.

Nope. Check it out.

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2596895/posts

The multi-millionaire owner of the Segway company died in a freak accident yesterday when he rode one of the high-tech two-wheel machines off a cliff and into a river.

Former miner Jimi Heselden, 62, plunged into the River Wharfe while riding around his West Yorkshire estate in Boston Spa on a rugged country version of the Segway.

He bought the firm last December and was using one of the machines - which use gyroscopes to remain upright and are controlled by the direction in which the rider leans - to inspect the grounds of his property.

It was actually Sept 27 2010.

Yeah, I remember them saying, “cities will be designed around it.” They couldn’t get around the fact that you just looked like a giant dork driving one.

Musk has SpaceX and Tesla as cash cows, and Neuralink down the road. He is well enough off now. I hope he at least provides reasonable cost/benefits on all his projects are reasonable.

All the schools around here only took TI, apparently that’s true for a lot of the country. TI or the highway.

My understanding is that, Tesla is not that well of, therefore, not a big cash-cow. And, when it comes to Tesla, it’s not going to get any government support in the near or distant future, seeing as how government(s) funding will not be there because of the very low tax revenues expected for a long time. Government funding/support is what got Tesla off the ground.

Musk also have the batteries factories, which are still not very productive and not really cash cows.

SpaceX may also suffer down the line, since a lot of projects may have to be cut by companies and government that use SpaceX for launches.

Well, the Tesla stock is insane and will be for the foreseeable future. SpaceX will almost certainly not go down much from today and can only go up, since it’s not publicly traded it’s hard to tell its real value.

I strongly support Musk, he’s one of the greatest businessmen/revolutionaries in a long time. He’s like a late 1800’s Morgan or Vanderbilt or Edison. Right guy at the right time. He’s also coming out as more and more conservative on his tweets which is nice to see for a change.

It’s not about Musk’s business savvy, nor about his political leanings. It’s about practicality, and when it comes to Tesla vehicles, there probably isn’t a big enough market (especially in the foreseeable future) to keep the company and it’s stock healthy and successful Lot’s or promises in the past, very little delivery for the affordable market. With gas prices so low lately, EVs are doomed to remaining niche market curiosities. Make the vehicles affordable for the common folks, and perhaps their is a market for them, but then, they had better get their ‘fuel’ costs down, and per-charge driving-distances comparable to ICE vehicles.

EV’s vs gas or like PC’s vs Macs in the 90s.

It’s the awesome next thing to over 75% of the driving population and I strongly believe in 10-15 years they’ll completely replace internal combustion. Once you see cheaper cars with 1200+ range and 1 million recharge batteries it’ll be over. And that day is sooner than you might think.
