Thanks for the update from Vientiane. I spent a year there, and it was one of my favorite places in Asia. Hope I can go back for a visit this year. From the top of the Arch to the Riverside restaurants with all fresh food, and cheap beer. Really fun. What is it like now?

Consider yourself lucky you got half your money back. We had confirmed reservations bought and paid way in advance. Tucson to Atlanta to Fort Meyers. We got an email a day before departure they were throwing Salt Lake City into the mix, only problem was connecting flight out of Utah departed 3 hours before we got there.
We had to make and pay for a new flight. Delta refused to refund our money, offered a voucher instead.
If I ever get on another commercial flight I will have to be dead or in handcuffs.
