As I understand it, Nancy Pelosi would be acting President, until a President is chosen by the House of Representatives, if for some reason there is not a President chosen by January 20th. It’s not as if Nancy is then president for the full four year term of office.
Incomprehensible. Intolerable. If you intentionally screw up an election, you have broken the implied contract with those you govern, AKA consent of the governed. We have overlooked a lot. This stunt will NOT be overlooked.
That is not the way Laurence Tribe described it. I am not an expert on this matter. He described it as treating the election as “meaningless” if the President’s term expires and a new President has not been selected. Not my words - his.
I’m no expert either. Since this has never happened, there’s no precedent on how to proceed. Perhaps the constitution and laws are unclear about it, because the presumption is that eventually the House of Representatives will have chosen a president.
But if Laurence Tribe is right, then it would be a situation where Democrats in the House could just run out the clock until January 20th, and never choose a president, to allow one of their own, Pelosi, to become President.
Folks like Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Tucker and Laura Ingraham need to be talking about this now. It sure would be an incentive to vote AGAINST the Rats in House races. President Pelosi would no doubt scare a lot of Democrats.
