Who / why stockpiles over 6 years of ammonium nitrate fertilizer in a busy seaport, next to a fireworks factory?
Why, there may be a famine and a need to grow crops. Who, the peaceful Bedouins trying to eke out a quiet, pastoral existence. Also, ammonium nitrate is more stable than dynamite and more accessible in A-bomb quantities than TNT.

I believe they discovered that you couldn’t move
nitro through pipes so all conveyance was by gravity
and open troughs. !!!!
In THEORY, “they say” it was a shipment several years ago- the ship had technical problems and abandoned the cargo...at the port.
I find it hard to believe- but this is such an extraordinary event that it could be stupidity, negligence, laziness, that MIGHT or might NOT have been exploited. I tend to go with favor the stupid accident theory for the moment.

But, I must say, that for an accident, the damage is impressive bordering on incredible. One short video I saw was taken from a moving car on a road across the water from the point of detonation. When the shockwave hit, the car flipped over and the camera was looking at the roof.

There was a fire burning out of control there, when secondary detonations began occurring - then the Mother of All Secondary Detonations occurred.
That was amazing to me- the distance some of the videos are taken from- and the damage from 1 mile or more away.
I can certainly envision Ahmed knowing the nitrate was there and deciding to meet Allah in a blaze of glory- but still tough to see an enemy of Lebanon going to this extreme. It’s truly a catastrophic event for Lebanon.
The death toll will be shocking, I think.
