Nixon died 26 years ago and left the Presidency 46 years ago. Why didn’t the liberals do something about it over that near half-century? And by the way, that happens to match Joe Biden’s tenure in public office perfectly. Why not blame him?

The Great Society/feminism is to blame for this part of the mess, not lack of universal state-funded daycare.

Amen!

Welfare = Paying people to be unproductive, requires taxing productive people.

Taxing productive people means those productive people have to fewer dollars to spend supporting their families.

This means either they work longer hours or another member of the family has to work outside the home ie, the mother has to work.

Then there is Aid To Dependent Children. This program has the noble purpose of separating men from their children or if you prefer permitting men to father children with no worries of being financially responsible for their care or upbringing.

The War on Poverty should have been labeled the war to inflict poverty and ignorance on children.

True enough. Why didn’t the Carter administration pass this legislation, if it was so clearly outrageous that Nixon had vetoed it?

When stuff like this comes out, it must mean rat internal polling shows declining support from suburban soccer moms.

Rest assured that the National Day Care Worker’s Union by now would have been on strike because their workers are endangered because of COVID-19.

“But soon Nixon signed the 1971 Revenue Act, which included tax deductions for child-care costs for families with incomes high enough to owe taxes.”

Love that quote...seems to me that those who have INCOMES owe taxes. IOW, more free stuff. They never give up. BTW, in 1972 the bottom tax rate was: 14% beginning at 0 TI (income minus deductions). The Standard Deduction was 1500 and exemptions were 750 each. So, for a married family of 4 taxes began around $4500. Lastly the deficit in 72 was $23 Billion. This year it will be close to 1000 times that much.

I know plenty of married couples who struggle with finding affordable child care.

I know one that did not: they lived with their parents, both worked, never divorced, they supported their parents, did not rush out and buy a home or two new cars every other year, yet put two kids partly through college...my parents.

Not everyone can have that lifestyle but more seem to be in a rat race to accumulate goods no matter what the cost.

There is a method to their madness and a reason why Richard Nixon is being brought up. Many of us see the games they play.

I found it interesting that they cited the fear of “middle class white women” entering the workforce as a reason for the veto. Both my birth mom and step mom worked. I have conscious memories of both of them working when I was 5 (1967).

The middle class white women DID enter the workforce. And their kids (those of us born between 1960 and 1975) raised ourselves. Some of us were better at it than others; the others fed into the juvenile crime rates that were sky high from 3-6 every afternoon.

I’m really kind of surprised that more psych and sociologist types have not done more research into the Latch Key Kid Generation and how we turned out.

https://study.com/academy/lesson/latchkey-kids-definition-effects-statistics.html
Effects

Unsupervised time can make children independent and sometimes can lead to challenges and negative outcomes. School performance tends to be lower in latchkey children. Some studies show the number of latchkey students doing poorly in school is as high as 51%. Children tend to go home and watch television rather than engage in more stimulating activities. Research by the National Educational Longitudinal Study found that the amount of television time could be predicted by the number of self-care hours. After-school programs have significantly improved school performance because they often provide homework help.

Drug use is higher among latchkey kids. Students unsupervised after school have a higher rate of trying drugs than those that are supervised. Research by the University of California and other universities found a relationship between the amount of self-care and drug abuse in 8th graders regardless of other factors, such as income and extracurricular activities. Research by Laurence Steinberg found that peer pressure, which can lead to drug use, was higher when students were in public places, like malls, rather than in homes, so students who hang out with their friends instead of going home are at greater risk.

Sexual activity is also higher when adolescents are not supervised after school. Research shows that unsupervised time at home is a predictor of sexual activity.

And how many years ago was that?

Wrong.

Blame Lyndon Johnson. His era and his policies began the downward trends in the African American family, weakening it in every direction, beginning with the increase in out of wedlock births, abortions, single parent female head of household families, kids raised without dads, single parent moms struggling to make up for the economic deficit of one parent home.

Prior to the 1960s the African American family was still strong. And because it was strong the African American family was a stronger economic unit as well.

There is data going all the back to the 1800s, showing the strength of the African American family. The decline we all see continuing today began under Lyndon Baines Johnson.

Back when we ruled the world rather than get trapped into going along. In real years it ended when my grandmother died in 1995 at 102.

My wife is from the accumulation group. Her latest is we need a pool. I said we have a pool a few steps from our door it requires no maintenance, no utilities, no extra taxes, and has a 3000 mile lap lane. See just aligning needs to wants.

I can remember when many homes —even in small cities-—were 3 story.

Store was on the ground level and all of family worked here.

Grandparents lived on 2nd floor.

Current generation of parents lived on 3rd floor.

Grandparents did whatever babysitting was needed-—and the MOM who needed the ‘babysitting’ worked in the store on the ground floor.

It was the same all thru the main street of the town.

Other homes had multi generations in them, and the Moms rarely worked.

However, the constant demand for cell phones-—fancy cars— computers didn’t exist. I kids played ‘ball’ outside & weren’t blind from sitting in front of a screen.

The family TV was on ONLY at night.

Don’t look now, Anna, but it is NOT my taxpayer money that should fund the care of OTHER people’s kids.

IF you want kids-—pay for them yourself.

NO welfare should be paid for more than 1 child. I am tired of paying for LITTERS of welfare kids.

Thanks again.
