Like others on here have said, they’d never even get beyond getting it locked on.

Another Wiley Coyote plot foiled. Praying this is a one time shipment, not one in a series.

Being an ex ordnance guy, with an A&P ticket, just not possible. Just trying to figure out what software and codes the missile runs on is never going to happen.

So it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to launch an A/A missile, vertically from the ground, with the seeker head triggered? You know, from a knocked together launcher?

I'll tell the USS Forrestal.

You know, Iranians are primative, but they are good at re-purposing ordinance... And this is the second that has popped up in the last year. Last one was in Italy, originally from Qatar... I'd bet there is a Qatari ordinance officer with a Swiss account, somewhere...

IR and semi-active RADAR homing—paint your target from a separate radar, the reflection of which is detected by the missile receiving unit for initial guidance. IR provides final guidance at intercept.

A contractor who was working at a Florida airport opened up a container to find a live missile.

I had no choice, it wouldn't fit in my carry on luggage......

"Being an ex ordnance guy, with an A&P ticket, just not possible."

Been doing this for over 40 years - "jury-rigging" the mechanical and electrical part probably do-able, a software geek with the manufacturer's manual also probable.

I'm not saying it would be pretty, but it could be functional.

Mach 4.5 intercept velocity, with 25 to 40 km range from an aircraft launch.

Digging on Draken International I found on their corporate page that they have... a new CEO and a new COO.

http://www.drakenintl.com/blog/blog/post/joe-ford-joins-draken-international-as-chief-executive-officer

Joe Ford Joins Draken International as Chief Executive Officer

Las Vegas, NV – The Board of Directors of Draken International, LLC has elected Joseph “Joe”
Ford as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Ford will also serve as a member of the
company’s Board of Directors.

Ford previously served as President, DynAviation at DynCorp International. At DynAviation,
Ford was responsible for all aspects of the segment’s profit and loss performance with functions
including operations, supply chain management, finance, quality assurance, human resources,
contracts and internal and external business development.

Ford will succeed Jared Isaacman who has served as Draken’s Founder and Chief Executive
Officer since 2011. Isaacman will become the non-executive Chairman of the Board of Directors
and will assist Ford through the transition.

also farther down on same page...

The board also elected Bill “Sweet” Tart as Chief Operating Officer. Sweet joins Draken from
DynAviation where he was Senior Vice President, Business Development. Prior to his private
sector career, Sweet served in the United States Air Force for 25 years, retiring in 2014 as the
Director of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Division at the Pentagon. He previously served as the
commander of the 432nd Operations/Expeditionary Operations Group at Creech Air Force Base,
Nevada and the senior military assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative
Affairs. Sweet is a Risner Trophy winner for outstanding performance at USAF Weapons
School.

So it6 would seem that Dyncorp exec’s. have taken over this Draken who have the aircraft and the pilots to fire this missle.

Also more on Dyncorp...

DynCorp has provided security and training services in major military theaters around the world, including Bosnia, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

DynCorp is a derp front company. I bet Sweet Tart is a real sweet guy. /S

This is huge... others please help dig into this.

This WAS NOT a misplaced shipment.

IMHO, This was likely to be used to take out AF1!

This has happened before. My recollection is that, during the Cold War and either the late 1950's or early 1960's, an East German or Soviet agent stole a USAF Sidewinder air-to-air missile, drove it a fair distance on a West German autobahn in ye old Volkswagon mini-bus with the missile nose cone sticking out the back with a red flag on it to comply with German traffic regulations, took into a West German airport and shipped it to Moscow on United Airlines air freight.

Nothing to see here - move along.

The missile was shipped to Draken International which operates this airport and has a hundred or more surplus jet aircraft including the Mirage F1 which is capable of carrying this missile. They contract for supplying combat aircraft targets for training and other military contracting. What would stop them from using this to shoot down an American jet or Air Force 1 if the missile was operational and loaded onto a Mirage?

SCARRY STUFF FOR THIS MISSLE TO MAKE IT THROUGH CUSTOMS AND ONTO THIS PARTICLUAR AIRFIELD WITH JETS THAT CAN CARRY THE MISSLE.

The Matra R.530 is a French medium to short range air-to-air missile. It was available in infrared homing and semi active radar homing as the main armament of the Mirage III which was able to carry a single missile in the centerline, the Mirage F1, which carried two (one of each type) under the wings, and the F-8 Crusader in French Navy service.

Secret Service needs to investigate who ordered this missile, when, where, who sold it, who shipped it, why Draken?
