I am certain I saw one of those missiles do a U-turn, chase then explode. Anyone know if I’m seeing things (go ahead, speak up) or are those missiles capable of that type of targeting?

Most point defense missile are track and lock-on. This means they are launched with a target in the envelope where they can intercept then they are steered from the ground or with internal sensors to the intercept point.

Their speed and small control surfaces makes them not the most maneuverable of vehicles. In an airplane if you know you are being chased, you wait for the missile to get fairly close then you do violent turns to evade and make the missile overshoot. Once that happens the missile doesn't come back at you. It goes ballistic and usually self-destructs.

When a missile leaves the launcher it can radically steer a new azimuth under power (while the propellant is burning). Some radical changes in direction are possible and you may have seen that.

There are two videos up now, twilight and night, and I'm curious at which video and time stamp do you see the maneuver?

It was a night video but I don’t know which one it was. There were a bunch of them posted today on social media and youtube.

In the night video, two batteries are firing, one from the left and one more in the center. At timestamp 0:20 right in the center of the screen, just above the gap in the trees, there is a missile that appears to make a 90 degree pursuit curve.

It took awhile to spot it in the barrage, but that may be the one you saw. It could also be a missile from the center battery just becoming more visible but I think it is an intercept maneuver. Pretty slick for a system like that!!

The incoming missiles are following a ballistic trajectory. From launch a dedicated interceptor can be targeted to it and wouldn't require that much of a maneuver to intercept point. Maybe the iron dome missile was retargeted after launch??
