Well, we have a shortage in this country of people willing to do higher paying factory work as it is right now. The notion that there is a large number of people who are “suffering in the heartland” and can be the best workers in the world of given the chance is largely a myth. Crack down on disability and welfare fraud and push job skills in public education an help, but when you are raised with inter generational dysfunctionality, finding quality workers becomes all the more difficult.

I also support more manufacturing at home and trade with truly friendly nations rather than China, but let’s also be realistic about the sociocultural condition of the bottom 25% of our population.
