I disagree. The SCOTUS would have released the final opinion in the ordinary course before the end of the current term, which would have left the left with plenty of time to exploit the decision prior to the mid-term election. The draft was leaked not to influence the elections, but to influence the court in the hopes of convincing -- or threatening -- two of the justices to switch sides before the final vote.
