***Don’t forget the “a priori” fallacy: We shouldn’t get involved in foreign entanglements therefore we shouldn’t be involved in this one. [regardless of the obvious nuclear nonproliferation consequences]

Isn't that essentially the same as "Begging the Question?"

"The reason we shouldn't vote to build this dam is because it would be wrong to build this dam?"

Also known as: Circular Reasoning?

No, I’m saying the US has taken the lead, spent the money, and spilt the blood to the tune of $30+ trillion in the red for thirty years. No minds were changed in Afghanistan or Iraq. The War on Covid wrecked the US economy and that was largely self-inflicted with the lockdowns. If we were doing it right, we wouldn’t be in the fiscal and societal straits we’re in. I can’t imagine getting involved in another war (even a proxy one) when I think there are more pressing issues at home.

Demand for Perfection Fallacy!

With a dash of "Whataboutism" thrown in!

Covid, Afghanistan, Irak... Why not mention the phony sinking of the Maine / Spanish American War or the rotten Compromise of 1850, while you're at it?

"No, I'm not giving my sister the $5,000 she needs for her son's urgent, life-saving brain operation because she still owes me five bucks for the brewskies I bought on her behalf for last year's Fourth of July picnic. And just last month, I saw her eating steak instead of hamburger! And besides: None of the other siblings have stepped up! So sorry: No operation for you, dear nephew!"

I repeat: Every destroyed Russian tank is one tank less that our American boys will have to be facing ten years down the road. Every launched Kinzahl hypersonic missile is one less missile that can be aimed at American troops someday.

The Russian military is currently in a meat-grinder - and you want to stop the cranking!

Well, yeah. I just find myself astounded that they resort to such reasoning. How do you refute circular reasoning other than to show it is circular?

Well, shiite... you beat me to it in response. I wish I could think of a better response but... not quicker, that’s fersure.

Kudos.

We’ve been well-argued into $30+ trillion into debt. (Every dollar passed a vote.) You’d argue us into $40B more for the sake of killing Russians in a proxy war. You might convince everyone else it’s a good idea, but not me.

If Russians were killing Americans, that would be a different story. But I’m not looking to insert Americans into Ukraine and would rather strenuously avoid having America drawn into it.

Look on the bright side: you have the perfect people in office to advance your views.

No one here is talking about "inserting Americans" into Ukraine! You are deliberately attempting to "move the goalposts."

But other than that, you are right, of course:

The Russian military has never posed a threat to American lives! The Russian military-industrial complex has never supported proxy conflicts responsible for the death of thousands of American soldiers! And furthermore: Russia's military will NEVER pose a threat to American lives in the future! (Because your crystal ball says so!) Our stockpiles of antiquated munitions are better left in storage, collecting dust, where they are doing more good to protect the U.S. than they they would, deployed on a foreign battlefield halfway around the world, where they would be used to kill Russian invaders and destroy Russian materiel!

You are right!

Of course I see the difference. I was well aware in 2014 that Putin was doing a bad thing by taking Crimea from Ukraine. I was not aware that before Putin grabbed Crimea there were borders set in 1994 by a multi state agreement. In fact at that time I did not know much about Ukraine history beyond the fact that Stalin killed several million “Kulacs” by starvation which I had learned decades earlier. As I learned from some of your posts weeks ago, both eastern Ukraine and the area around Crimea have fuel wealth. I don’t know what Biden’s plans are, but I hope we help Ukraine get everything back that was stolen in 2014.

“Because they want us there. We are not there as aggressors or conquerors.”

You don’t understand such things by saying that.

“It begs the question either way of why Russia would find it necessary to invade pitstops or wastelands.”

Well, if they thought they could invade Poland or Hungary and get away with it, I’m sure they would.

US and NATO forces have already taken up positions along the Russian border in Finland. If Russia wants to attack Finland at this point they are going to war with NATO.

Also, Google is now publishing high resolution imagery of Russian bases along with military-accurate GPS coordinates.

I hope the Ukies put that information to good use killing orcs.

How so? Be specific, and not regurgitate talking points.
