The real reason she’s leaving is her boss. The rest of the company is almost all remote. Her boss sounds close to a hostile work environment, demands they be in the office and even told her she needs to check out with her when she leaves (after business hours)
There have been discussions with HR about it and I suspect my daughter won’t be very shy about why she’s leaving.
It’s out of character for a futuristic visionary like Musk to oppose working from home online. I bet he’s weeding out the covidians. Anyone too afraid of covid to come to work probably believes everything CNN, Falsie, and Xiden say. Such people would defy and undermine Musk, just like they did Trump when he was President.
Some things I could probably do better from home back in the day but had to be in the office. Solved the problem by locking my door, putting the phone on do not disturb, and taping a picture of a monkey with a .45 on my door. No interruptions.
I was not able to find any numbers in an online search—if we have any Tesla employees maybe they can let us know what the ratio of factory floor to non-factory floor is....
That's a shame, sorry to hear that's happening. Been through that myself, arrogant bosses everywhere. Best approach is to seek allies of co-workers. I and my co-workers have gotten supervisors removed or displaced when they're hostile. If you're alone, all you can do is collect evidence and get dirt on them, difficult. I've done that myself and gotten bosses to resign. Otherwise, leaving is an alternative that's less stressful. Shutting one door behind you can open many other doors of opportunity.
The way I had dealt with a toxic boss was to become the friend of the boss’s boss, then I waited for TB to do something egregious but unreported, then I said offhandedly to BB, “It’s a shame isn’t it?”, like I assumed he already knew about it.
TB was gone a few weeks later.
I did a two-fer. Got both my boss and the boss's boss to resign. I knew that both were cheating, using company purchased items for personal use of their families. Secretly raided my boss' files from his office and sent copies of invoices along with other evidence to the director and auditors. One week later their resignations were announced. My boss personally apologized to me before leaving, about having mistreated me. Guess he didn't want me sending info to his future employers.
“They should pretend to work somewhere else.”
That is hilarious!

Or he could just pretend to pay them.
