Things will be much easier in the upcoming layoff season. All the dead wood we have working from home will be gone at the flip of a switch, don’t even have to pack up their cubicle.

I think that Elon is predicting that the economy is about to crash (and I think he’s right).

By putting in a new requirement, Elon is encouraging people to leave prior to having to make mass-layoffs that would involve severance payments, bad news, .... And he’s doing it while people are still in the mindset of “Jobs are everywhere so it will be easy for me to switch.”

A few years ago when things are on the upswing, Elon will perhaps be able to say things like “We were the only auto manufacturer that didn’t need to close locations during the recent depression.”

With gas prices continuing to climb and runaway inflation, Elon is correct to predict that the economy is going to crash.

“what is the ‘boss key’?”

It was ctrl-b when playing Leisure Suit Larry. When you hit it, a confusing spreadsheet popped up.

Yea the man who actually has built incredible wealth is wrong, because the people who academically study things but haven’t built anything say so… okay.

Honestly Musk knows recession/depression is coming.. I see this all as just forcing a voluntary RIF rather than formal layoffs iMHO

what is the ‘boss key’?

On many computer games, There is a 'boss key' that will quickly change the display to, say, an Excel spreadsheet. It hides the game you are playing at work. I believe I saw one on the March Madness app. The boss key is much quicker than closing your game and bringing up a new app.

Yup When the Fed first proposed teleworking its purpose was stated as helping the erf by keeping evil pollution emitting cars off the roads - the whole carbon will choke out life itself jazz, is a damn lie.

But actually it doesnt matter WHERE a lot of our Civil Servants duty stations are because they do little to nothing anywhere the “job” is.

Plus, its a fact their cars didnt stay in the garage either they do not abide by the rules, go shopping take long lunches - all they have to do is get out of bed to Log On and send some emails.

As a customer, the work from home movement led to me canceling a lot of vendor contracts. To often the work part did not happen at home.

Largely depends upon the type of work. If it is team oriented, you’re probably better off with more contact than zoom or similar tools provide. The one-size-fits-all approach is probably not the best tactic for work that is fairly solitary. I think it also has something to do with age. I wouldn’t trust most folk under 40 to actually concentrate on work. I know that’s not always true, but would be surprised if it were more true than not.

My company has gone to a hybrid model. I am more productive with certain tasks at home. There are other tasks where facetime with others are helpful. A large majority of my coworkers and managers have the same opinion. Musk should hire managers that set performance metrics. Facetime in the office does not always equal productivity.

IF COVID had NEVER happened-—this would NOT even be a topic.

Do these same ‘experts’ also think that HOME SCHOOLING is superior??? That gets done AT HOME.

I became self-employed in 1980 doing accounting for small businesses-—OUT OF MY HOME...

Worked long hours—Did Pick Up & Delivery..Sometimes clients delivered right to me.

Worked well-—NO rent—and could get alot of work done without distraction. Still have one client—this is year 53.

He is 84...I am 82....

If he enjoyed his family...he’d be with them instead of finding and making new ones.

Some folks enjoy being with their family nearby. Work better and longer too.

Others not so much.
