Knowing Elon, he'll want to see Jennifer in Human Resources in her office on site. Even if it's a simple question for one issue. She is most likely perfectly capable of doing her job remotely. But why should he have to put up with it?
If Jennifer is not happy with the arrangement, she can work elsewhere.
Smart read on the issue, before the economy further nosedives under Biden. Gets rid of non-loyal non-working employees and makes the company more efficient - while other companies go bust during the economy crash. Tesla has large surpluses of cash to ride out a crash.
Then go back to the office. :)
Then go back to the office. :)
When gas prices go down, I will. Unless I retire first.
Personally, having worked for a Tier 1 manufacturing company my entire life, I don't approve of working from home.
There is an extremely obese gal who lives behind me who works for the state of Michigan (in some sort of inspection capacity) who spends a lot of afternoon time during the week tending to her garden.
I guess I'm old school, if you're physically at work then I know what you're supposed to be doing and if you have time on your hands, I can find something else for you to do.
If you're working from home, I know what you're supposed to be doing but I have no idea on how long it is taking you to do it. Time that could be devoted to something else I can find for you to do.
anyone publicly claiming them self to be an “expert” is automatically a suspect ... all of the TRUE experts that i’ve known will say something like, “yeah, i know a little bit about that.” ...
If a 1st tier manager cannot manage their people remotely then the manager should be replaced. There is no excuse for not being able to handle a remote workforce in certain jobs. People that work hard in an office will generally work hard remotely too. Those that are slackers at an office should have already been let go and their retention is the 1st line managers fault.
Remote workplaces have the potential to save companies billions of dollars in excess costs and in appropriate situations, only the foolish ignore that.
“Experts”. Lol.
....”People that work hard in an office will generally work hard remotely too”....
Well that elemenates every Gov. employee from working at home.
Any time I see “EXPERTS SAY” I just stop reading, no point in going further.
My 23 year old niece said everyone she knows would rather work at home and would go find a job elsewhere if made to change. I wanted to ask where they would go but it was a family gathering and I let it be.
Save money by not paying the lease in office. But you suffer from a decline in productivity.
You might get away with it if you're a company like Facebook or Twitter for a while.
But you will lose your edge to upstarts like SnapChat and TikTok (just using this as an example).
You are wise. You should say "Starbucks is always hiring."
But nah. Not worth it.
“Experts say”
Those experts! They’ll say just about anything the media needs them to say.
Good management gets productivity from their people regardless of their location. Poor productivity from employees is always the fault of inept management. Having a slacker sit at a desk in the office is not going to transform that person into a dynamo.
He would make an amazing president.
Internet expert takes are always good for a laugh
I agree
But here is the thing. That is “old style” schooling.
While we do not home school, we know some who do. They would not call what you describe as homeschooling, and would be rather.... strident about saying so.
But again, you made my point. Few can do it independently.
I work in manufacturing.
With a very, very few exceptions every supplier or customer I have or had that went remote lost productivity.
Orders take longer to process. Collaboration is slowed, even between locations. Calls stopped getting answered.
I frankly don’t have time to Hommie McWorkFromHome to get back to me. My customers don’t have the patience to wait either.
That 1st tier manager? Well most of those in a remote work set up are just as bad or worse.
Sorry. Being in person is important because while YOU may be able to work effectively at home, most WILL not.
