“...I thought Teddy made it a National Park...” [dangus, post 27]
President Theodore Roosevelt established the first National Monument in September 1906: Devils Tower, northwest of Sundance in eastern Wyoming. In the Bear Lodge Mountains region of the Black Hills.
It was featured in Steven Spielberg’s film _Close Encounters of the Third Kind_. Most of the surrounding “landscape” shown in the film was faked.
I remember it. Nat Geo did an article on it, back when it was fit to read.
I guess they didn't have the bureaucracy back then like we do now. OTOH, bureaucracy is good if it keeps them from making my backyard a national park in two years!
I went thru Yellowstone in first week of Oct 1988 on my way to California. Went thru the Cody to the park. No crowds and the weather perfect. The following week I read in the newspaper that the same place I was at had 4 feet of snow in one day...!
The NPR radio around here plays good music so that is what is on when I’m driving. I always switch to another local station at the top of the hour to avoid the news.
Didn’t do it today and the Yellowstone flood was their lead story. It ended with, “Scientists say we can expect more disastrous weather events as climate change continues.”
Shame on you!
That’s pretty funny.:
1. Before I retired I had a 3-hour commute and up until the last couple of years I listen to NPR for comic relief during part of it.
2. The early line from the climate alarmists was that we would see a lot more hurricanes. In fact, the exact opposite happened. So they moved on to other scenarios. Where I live we had a really bad tornado within a half mile of our house a few months ago. Killed some people and wiped a lot of stuff. We also had one like that 150 years ago. What it was, was the typical rare tornado.
All that being said, we may be seeing some changes in climate due to possible change in the Earth’s magnetic north pole. There has been talk for years about the Earth changing its axis which it has actually done in the past. I suppose if they truly hard they might be able to find a way that we caused that. 🤣
They are really trying to convince us that CO2 is a bad gas. That way they can control everything we do, since everything we do creates a co2. That was my take at the beginning and it’s my take now more than ever. I think it’s the foundation of everything they’re trying to do.
Silverton to Durango in SW Colorado is worth a trip too.
