I'm old enough to remember when Turkiye grabbed the northern part of Cyprus.

And still occupies it to this day.

Erdgogan is just playing games. I kind of like his style.

I’m betting on some variation of everything the Ottoman Turk ruled is still ours.

What, America did not pay for the Louisiana Territory or the American Southwest?

Did your history classes skip these?

The Louisiana Purchase, (1803, many future states),

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (California, 1848) and,

The Gadsden Purchase (New Mexico, which became NM and AZ, 1854)

Are you just pulling my leg?

Then catch a flight over there and tell everyone.

Maybe make a sandwich board sign. I’m sure they will all listen to you.

Anybody who ever dreamed that Russia would give up its Crimean naval bases to become future NATO naval bases is smoking something much stronger than fentanyl.

Native Hawaiians have a greater chance of kicking the US Navy out of Oahu and brining in the Chinese Navy.

And we didn’t bother to pay for Hawaii, we just stole it from the Hawaiians at gunpoint.

Not at all. You’re proving my point.

Cheers.

Do you consider the Golan to be occupied territory? And what about Judea and Samaria? Northern Ireland?

The 2014 coup and the immediate Uke attack and ethnic cleansing on the Donbass changed everything. Crimea and the Donbass are never going back.

And soon, it’ll get chilly in the EU, fall is coming.

The nations jabbing their fingers at Russian control of Crimea have their own occupation skeletons. How far back must one go to legitimise an occupation or de legitimise it. You could say Turks are not legitimately part of Anatolia. The Greeks have a stronger claim.Turks are regional interlopers

That you would compare the transfer of Crimea to internal border adjustments within the US is the problem. Ukraine is a sovereign nation and Russia recognized Crimea as a part of Ukraine at the time of its independence. Turkey is just upholding the international order, not interfering with internal matters. Russia does not get to claim the territory of a sovereign nation just because is was once part of Russia.

“Further, wasn’t it a Conservative objective that all
people’s of the Soviet Union that wanted to, should
declare their independence and achieve it. “

Crimea voted that they wanted to join Russia, and two areas in the Donbass decided to opt out of the coup and become independent republics. Ukraine attacked them for it.

The uprising of 2014 was a popular movement against Russian interference and there have been two elections since. The internal politics of Ukraine is none of Russia’s business. The use of 2014 to justify Russian aggression is getting really old. Nor was there been any ethnic cleansing in Donbas. These are just blatant attempts to rationalize what is nothing more than a land-grab by Russia.

I agree, he is a very loose cannon.

But, Erdogan is a powerful leader, and is playing this crisis well. Turkey itself covets the Crimea, and could get grab it back. If the territory goes back to Ukraine, then look for the emergence of an ISIS style movement, causing a security crisis. It may even be that the Turkish state is obliged to send in “peace keeping forces”, if NATO and the Ukrainians can’t control the territory ...

“NATO is a defense pact. It is not an alliance that seeks to
advance the ability to attack nations.”

Oh, that must be why NATO attacked Libya and has moved 1000 miles towards Russia and has moved to encircle it also to the south. For defense against a country that has a military 10% of the size it was during the Fulda Gap days, and asked to join NATO also.

“Defense” LOl

In reality, NATO is expansionist and aggressive. And one of it’s main functions is as a full employment program for bureaucrats and defense contractors.

I’ll ask a similar question I asked another poster but phrased differently. Do you see any legitimate annexations and occupations anyhere else in the world? And if so, why does Russian control of the Crimea bug you?

Others could require that Istanbul must be returned to its roots as “Constantinople” and all the mosques reclaimed by Christian Churches.

What’s the chance of that?
